Still slightly incomplete but here are pics of the recent installation of late model (2004) F150 captains chairs into my Pig. Advantages other than the obvious improvement over a well-used original bench include the built in shoulder belt assembly, recline, adjustable lumbar support and a wide enough bottom cushion to hold and support my cushioned and wide bottom.
Had these same seats in my 2005 F150 SuperCrew and loved 'em for 120,000 miles so was happy to find these even though upholstery is mis-matched and I still need to source the flip down arm rests that should be on the inside back cushions.
Install was incredibly easy. After removing the bottom bracket and trimming off the lower outside edge of the seat base with a cutting wheel, we set the seat right on top of the floor pillar. It positioned it perfectly behind the steering wheel. We used a piece of 2" angle iron bolted directly to the floor (bolts reinforced underneath) on the inside, trimmed with a grinder to fit around the tranny hump, and bolted the seat directly to the angle iron. That left the cushion exactly level without shims, etc. Only downside is the need to relocate the rear heater, which I'll figure out before next winter.
Need to raise each side about a quarter inch in the back as we have the slider bound up and trim the bottoms of the plastic lower surrounds and install them before reinstalling the lumbar knob/recline lever. I'll try to remember to take pics of the install with the seats out and add them.
Now trying to decide if these seats or power steering with the mini-truck wheel were the best mod so far. Right now it's a toss-up. Am having the front Specter cammo bench cover made into slip covers for the buckets so all matches without spending a ton on re-upholstering front and back. FJ60 console still needs to be permanently attached but nicely completes the whole install.

Started out intending to install '90s Isuzu Trooper seats with all kinds of manual adjustment but they were just too narrow. The one feature on them I'll miss is the adjustable bottom cushion angle.

So, the Trooper seats have alot of adjustment. I'm looking for something that will help my bad back. New or used and rebuild, not sure how to go.

Thanks for posting, Ron

Hi,

Please post up pic's of the install as I am trying to figure out what type of seats would be a quick and painless install. If anyone has other options, please post them up! I want to keep the side brackets so any seats that would work with them is key. I put seats from a 2000 camry in the 40 & they are super nice.

Thanks! ty

Sorry, no pics other than what is posted. My bad.
But very easy install. Mounting the outside of each seat on the pedestal simply involves trimming that side of the bottom bracket on the seat flat (it normally a little rounded) and drilling new holes in the pedestal. You'll see them going in from the side in the one pic. Make certain the rear is raised enough to allow movement in the slider. For mounts on ea. side we merely mounted a 18" piece of 2' angle securely to the floor with reinforced heavy duty bolts/washers/nuts and again drilled holes to bolt onto the angle sideways. Seats ended up almost perfectly level with the driver side centered behind the wheel. Whole process could be done in 2-3 hours.
Possibly my best mod ever, including the overdrive and the power steering. I've since had my cammo SOR bench cover from the old bench cut and made into two covers for the captains chairs, so interior even matches front and back. $100 vs. the $900-$1100 estimates for reupholstering front and rebuilding/recovering back. Only improvement would be if they were power seats but the manually adjustable lumbar supports and comfy wide seats are wonderful. Have also put a FJ60-62 console between the front seats. Have not been able to find the fold down center armrests for either side...they don't even show up in the dealer parts computers. Must have been hallucinating for 120,000 miles in my 2005 F-150 crew cab.

Steering wheel is from an '80s Toyota mini truck. Rear heater could have been moved between the seats but for the FJ60 console. Right now its on the shelf...I'll have to figure out if I really need it and if so how to reinstall.

Original FJ55 rear heater that mounted under the bench on the driver side.

Mini-truck steering wheel is smaller in diameter...giving about an inch more room under the wheel. Didn't need the larger steering wheel after installing power steering, so sold it.
No vent above the front heater, have the older style since body is from a '73.
