How did you adjust carb?? There are 2 screws! Whats your idle at??
Idle no choke 650-690ish. With choke about 1500ish.

Followed this video. ..but it was something like mix screw out 1.5 turns, then turn out in until RPM's raise to highest I can find, then set idle to 690 again..., rinse and repeat until it's dialed.

What's your timing set at? Mine likes a lot more advance than what the book calls for

Advanced 7. I've had it both more and less with no difference.
Just read that above 3000ft I should be another 2 advanced...gonna make that quick adjustment. I was certainly already there at some point when I did it by ear when I first got it running. I've tried so many combinations of timing, idle screw setting, etc. Nothing is changing it much. I have a video on my phone I have to move to youtube so I can post it. I'll try to do that in a bit so everyone can hear what it's doing. It was from sometime last week.

Just checking, but you're not setting the bb to be tdc, right? There should be the bb and then the line. The line is tdc. I marked the line on my flywheel with yellow.

Funny I was trying to figure out how I did this last time. I can't see the line anymore..I'm using the same flywheel and remember seeing it last time, but can't now. I guess I need to mark it.so.I can be sure.

Ive been using the bb but setting the gun to zero and lining the bb up with the pointer, which be 7 btdc right? Then going a little more advanced..i.can obviously hear when it's running better though and it's somewhere over 7. I could be way off, but like I've said other than this little initial.stumble runs great. Obviously I need to get it set right.

I did notice after playing around today I'm getting a lot of gas smell..didn't used to get that

Just learned a bunch...and am a little more confused. I keep going back to the fact that this exact same set up ran great on the old engine so it has to be Vac, the carb has an issue it didn't used to have, or it's out of adjustment. Gonna keep trying stuff!

If you are having trouble with seeing the BB and knowing where you're at, you can adjust the timing with a vacuum gauge hooked up while it's idling. You will see your vacuum increase and the engine will audibly sound better. You may have to reduce your idle speed after you get it to where it's happiest.
