I've never seen weather strip going over the lip like that.

Finished Installing the top today. It has been a three day wrestling match putting the top on. Turned out great. Next up is the weatherstripping on the doors and rear hatch.

Good stuff.
I’m up near Angel Fire on my land for the summer and missing my 40 which is back in Austin.

I may be coming through Gallup soon as I’m doing some side trips. Again, good stuff and inspiring.

Thanks,
Ian

Drop me a line I'll treat you to something with green chili on it. My son is in Austin for 2.5 more weeks on his mission. I miss that guy. Its been 2 years.

Deal. Green chilies are a favorite part of living in NM, missing my family is not.

Did the weatherstripping on the doors. I used the superglue stuff from Cruiser Corps. It worked really easy. We’ll see how durable it is. I’ll hang them and get all the reveals even tomorrow.

Got all the weatherstripping installed and the doors bolted up. All the reveals look great. The doors are like bank vaults. All very solid feeling. Kind of looking like a real Landcruiser.

These are a couple of completely non-FJ40 related posts. I guess they are related in the sense that they are the reason why I haven't gotten anything done. Life. I had one missionary come home and one missionary leave a week later. I really love these turds and hate to see them leave me. I am really grateful when they return to see the men they become. I' the oompa loompa in the middle.

My son who is the proud new owner of an FJ40 (Freeborn in the USA) ate crap on a 4 wheeler. Luckily his face broke the fall so no real harm was done. Atleast nothing critical was damaged. You can see the sympathy on my face. Then my youngest got his first big game animal in the bag. He was guided by his older brother who is an "expert" now after his success last year. Great times.

Not sure if I ever got into the long story about my gas tank? I am tall and the only way I could sit comfortably with decent sight lines was to drop the seat frame down a bit. This made my fuel tank not fit and therefore required it to be relocated to the back. Well I finally got around to installing my new fuel filler. Not sure how I feel about it but it will work. I will probably move the factory filler back sometime in the future. I just like the OG. Also saw this badass car in Las Cruces. I used to have goldfish named Bo and Luke. Such a fan.

Nice! What tank did you install for fuel and where? I like the idea of lowering the seat height as I'm fairly tall too.

Quick FJ40 update. Got the twin stick kit installed. It took some real thinking but the boy and I were able to do it. Next step is to install the Lokar shifter for the transmission…then I can button up the transmission tunnel and bolt in the seats. Slowly but slowly it’s coming together. Here’s some of the reasons we’re going so slow.

Deer hunt in the bag. I already know…the mustache is sweet. You look ridiculous hunting without a mustache. Quail hunt in the bag. Thanksgiving in the bag.

So much has happened in the past little bit. On the F-Bomb front I finally got the transmission tunnel buttoned up which means the twin stick shifter is done as well as the Lokar cable shifter for the transmission. Put the seat frame back in along with the battery. All vacuumed and cleaned up. The seat is way too comfortable. I found myself just sitting in there. My son has convinced me that we need to have mine done in time for the Solid Axle Summit this summer. That’s what I’m shooting for. Plenty of pictures of all the other stuff we’ve been up to instead of hammering out the Bomb.

More life pics. Pheasant hunting in KS over New Years weekend. Melvin Crow in Goodland KS. Best dogs around at any price. Non-stop shooting.

Those pics take me back to my teens. We used to hunt Kansas Pheasants in the late 70’s early 80’s. Massive farm fields, CRP zones and Railroad right of ways. We set up campers at an old abandoned school house. We usually could find a Cilli Supper in town during the week someone was having as a fundraiser. The sights and sounds of Pheasant week were special times.

Back to the Bomb. Picked up a little something something a couple months ago. Joining the 8274 club. Finally got it installed today. Got the cable unspooled. I’ll worry about wiring it up and finishing the install later. I want to get this thing driving. Henry has me setting a goal for Solid Axle Summit. I have some questions about the event for anyone who’s attended or is an organizer.

Brought it outside to install the front windshield. It’s the first time being outside in a few years. Looks great in the sun despite all the dust.

Also went to visit my sister in Salem OR. Unbelievable country up there. So beautiful. We went to the coast to Lincoln City. I saw this thing in a field….if I only had a truck and trailer.
