So, after crawling under the pig for the third time to fix my dilapidated exhaust system, I am looking for ideas, .02 cents, raves, rants, and general discussion on good exhausts. Caveats: I would like it to be quiet (the muffler, that is, not the rants:D), and I'm not looking for monster flow or horsepower gain. Longevity is a plus. I'm also not too concerned about routing it OEM. It has the original exhaust manifold also. So, what say you? Weld it up myself? (I have access to equipment to do so) Take it to Midas? Go Stainless and Flowmaster? Screw it, cut it off in front of the exhaust and take the straight pipe like a man? What worked (or didn't) for you?

Route it to the cabin

Either sell it and get a Humvee or straight pipe into the cabin, that way wealls don't have to hear it and you will always Know when its' runnin rich. Ok on the less practical side (sure that stock exhaust mani is hangin in there? nows the time to find out). Ya bro 2" aluminized tube over the frame in the engine bay, run er down the side (ouside the frame rail) and dump it out in front of the rear tire. Ask the Trollhole to show you his big exhaust thread on this subject.

does anybody live near: Nottawa, Michigan ?

Waldron Exhaust...i have heard about them many years ago...they are REALLY good people and great products. They make SS exhaust for lots of classic cars and trucks...complete systems.

"From Auburn to Zephyr, from 1909 to 1980, we can provide you with a duplicate of your original, factory exhaust system for nearly every domestically produced passenger car or light truck built during this period."

Waldron's Antique Exhaust

they have nice round mufflers just like oem :) cant see why they wouldnt make a system for cruisers...a 40 series and a 55 series at least :)

Does in front of the rear tire keep exhaust out when you run with the rear window down?

I have a Flowmaster 50 series on my 55 and love it but prob still too loud for some (not a DD). I put a Magnaflow on my friends 55 and his IS a DD, its very quiet-cant even hear it running at idle, he loves it! Both are 2.5" bent around the rear left motor/trans mount along the inside of frame exits out the back on the drivers side. I fig. for the $$ it would be worth it to let the pros handle it?

Don't run it straight out the back if you run with the window down.

Some local laws might not like in front of the rear wheels on a wagon. It also puts it right where a passenger will put their leg when exiting the pig.

I-6s sound like crap at speed with a loud exhaust. Nice and quiet.

Right on. Well, I'll just keep 'er stockish and curvy and call it good. I don't mind the routing as it stands.

Well, I HAVE been eyeing this nice 50's era deuce and a half... Air conditioned via holey tarps and missing windscreens...

I have run mine inside of the frame rails on a stock manifold, exit behind rear driver's tire. It keeps everything out of the way. Most 55's have too many holes in the floorboard to not dump it out the side and too much overhang to put it in the back without smashing it shut.

On a related side note, does an SOR 2 piece header clear the rear motor mount? I just got a set that came with some other parts and it looks like it just barely clears, but I'm not positive.
