Oh those nervous times in the waiting room, when I prayed that it wouldn't be my vehicle that leaps off the dyno onto United Boulevard - watching its untimely end from my helpless position behind the glass...

Only to find out that I registered 3-decimal-something on the Opacity scale (allowable 30 points). "And, sir, given that your vehicle hasn't come near the limits, you must now pay for this information."

i just missed i had to airscare my wifes 2006 for the 1st time in december , my jetta is due in june and i plan to cancel the insurance and renew it before hand for 12 months- screw aircair it was once necasary but that ended at least 10 years ago

Looks like I will let the insurance for the 80 lapse until 2015. It can be uninsured for 3 months to avoid Air Care because I have never passed it first try. Sometimes it takes 3 tries. I am tired of replacing O2 sensors, catalytic converters, etc.

Last 2 times I took the 74 through I insured for 11 months, then insured for another year.
I'm not counting the dead aircare chickens before they hatch, but I'm still cautiously optimistic.

I agree Norm. I am not being too optimistic until I see the stations being scraped and the equipment sold and being sent to some other jurisdiction to screw some other people out of their money. Translink is a money pig and the Liberals have extended its demise before. I trust neither of them.

My step bro and his skyline on the other hand is screwed. He got a VI and has to go to an Nissan dealer for his.... I think he is toast

I have no problem with vehicle inspections just like there used to be down on Georgia St. near Stanley Park. No problem also with Aircare even though it was inconvenient and it seemed the results were not consistent. Don't see too many blue smoking cars on the roads any more... But then I accepted that I had to maintain my stuff to a certain standard and there was no issue, no need to get pissed off or cheat with stupid 'work arounds'. Dont need another union so I am quite happy that is going...

Kind of depends on what the requirements are for inspections I guess. If they start to complain about anything that isn't stock, that could be an issue. EG. can't have lift on your vehicle or coilovers. I could see them doing that. Hopefully, the don't if they bring inspections in.

Why does he have to go to a dealer? Does it have to do with the reason he got the VI?

I don't know how it's enforced VI wise but the richmond cop wrote down on the ticket VI required by Authorized Nissan Dealer Only... Thought that was quite harsh/funny

its been done like this for quite some time but i would question it if it was me. they are suggesting that a normal vehicle inspection cant do the job and that doesnt add up.

My feeling is they don't want u taking it to a buddies shop and paying him off to do a VI for you, granted he can loose his inspection privileges.... Where as if you take it to Nissan then they are not going to risk loosing it.

I think he has fixed everything to make it compliant now except his lights (don't think u can get LHD lights for R32's) but his rockers are rusted out but I don't know if that matters

He should go to ICBC and request requirements for VI from them. Then discreetly ask about why someone would be forced to go to dealer only. My understanding is an inspection station is qualified, regardless of brand, it shouldn't matter. Ask first, of course, it could be the first time law enforcement has not spoken truthfully.

The RCMP can not tell you where you have to get an inspection done. A guy I used to work with was told by a Chilliwack RCMP he was to go to a Ford dealer for a VI, this is bull**** he looked into it.

I believe this is how it started out in Australia, first emissions, then mandatory inspections. Once inspections were put into place that ended pretty much all vehicle modifications

I think you are still allowed up to a 2 lift. There was some question if that was just suspension or if it also included tire size. I think Queensland is the stickler for 2" total lift. Haven't been to the Aussie forums for a while. But yes, they have it bad down there. Pretty much any significant mod requires an engineer's certificate (that is not a mechanic's inspection).

The whole issue here in Canada is really being promoted by the stealerships and the insurance industry. Been a couple years since I followed that discussion. Nationally there was a automotive industry/government committees studying vehicle ride height altercation (lowering and lifting) and another looking at "fleet renewal" for "increased safety" and "reduced emissions". But we all know that the real reason from the automotive industry is to create rules to make us buy new vehicles.
