@Element Fire -

Can you give us (me) - any help on the tech specs of keeping these in a boat where ocean wave spray / offshore fog is common?

Is the outer shell waterproof or what mitigating solutions (storing in pvc tube, etc) - would you do if you were to carry in a boat you owned?

-Not that I doubt you @LC4LIFE , just trying to get direct info since it’s a tangent topic to just carrying on land.

I’ll reach out to my contact there and ask too. Not sure you’ll get a response here as it looks like activity here is rare.

Here is the responsive I received from my contact at Element. I relayed your exact questions to them.

"As you know, the Element Fire Extinguishers have no moving parts which is a significant advantage over traditional fire extinguishers whose mechanical mechanisms can leave them vulnerable to corrosion. The Element’s striking component is well protected by its plastic cap and should perform as intended in environments with ambient moisture. Your Element should never be submerged in water (or any other liquids for that matter).

We recommend treating the Element as you would any other piece of safety equipment."

I appreciate the follow up.

That’s still a bit vague to us boaters who go offshore & know we’re on our own if things go sideways.

I was planning to carry 2) 100’s but I may buy a 50 & just see what it looks like - if the ignitor seems frail in water environments, whatever.
Worst case, I light one 50 off & see how it does on hot gasoline.

I’m into the tech, but the body need to be stout or I can make mitigation for my routine freshwater spraydowns to keep salt spray from corroding everything - my open top means we have salt everywhere on a windy day.

I’ll see what other boaters are saying, this seems great but I know I have to keep a USCG approved extinguisher onboard too if this isn’t cert’d.

I hear ya. I will be doing a test and video with my next batch too. That will be in about 3 weeks. My only concern, from what it looks like in person, would be if either portion of the striker was to get wet I am not sure how well it would still ignite. You know how if you have a wet match it basically won't light.....I can't tell by looking at the two surfaces on either the 100 or 50 if they are coated like water proof matches, or if the strike material is waterproof. I will ask that question to them now. Even in the tech documents I have, they don't specifically call out if the striking surfaces are waterproof.

@LC4LIFE - that striker was exactly what I saw too for a weak point in marine life. Glad you saw that too.

It would be easy to do some sort of waterproofing coating like spray bombcan bedliner on the cardboard tube part if it was the fail point, but that ignitor.....that’s what has my attention too, so again glad you brought it up as I’m not out to poke hole in the system.

I just need to know what it takes to make these style work if we can, I’ve been in a onboard motor fire (my own boat, I had to make the calls) -& it wakes you up bigtime to how ‘little your world’ -is when you have a marine emergency/failure.

My whole boat meets USCG 2018 guidelines both for insurance coverage & safety of those aboard, the 2nd being why I’m cracking whip before I add these onboard as something to rely on.

Heck, if these guys get USCG approval, that could be huge to their target market - us boat guys don’t blink at pricetags, as a general demographic.

FYI - Its actually stainless steel

Good to know - the label must have made it look like wound paper.

Edit::
Wound = not sure spell/spoken - so all know my intent, I thought I saw a cardboard tube ala’ Roman Candle fireworks the way the label texture looks on the exposed tube portion above the grip.

Awesome it’s SS too, that’s something either I missed or they should promote in describing it.

So, since @Element Fire is MIA lately with a full inbox, and they are out of stock elsewhere, is there a place to get these with the discount/shipping perks?

I can do the deal but am out of stock too. I have more on the way. I’m back tomorrow so I’ll try to find out when mine will land and post back here.

My stock is due to land 3/20. For everyone that may not know, both the E50 and E100 extinguishers must ship ground given the way these extinguishers are classified by the shipping companies. Takes about 4-6 days ground.

Use MUDEL19 for 10%off and if you get to $100 or more of ElementFire product, it ships free. I will ship any orders the day they land if you pre-order. You can order here - Element E50 Fire Extinguisher

I've tried to get a few discussions going here in Oz about the Element extinguishers and there'a a lot of hesitation about their suitability. I don't know (yet) of any legit Australian distributor of them, but a few 4wd tv shows have reviewed them.

I believe the equivalent over in Australia is the FireStryker and I have seen a fair amount of info on that in Australia, but that has also been on the interwebs, so maybe dig in to it from that angle. I know the technology of these is not new, but it is new to the automotive arena.

@LINUS it looks like FireStryker has a waterproof marine housing available in Australia. I would say that's the answer for the conditions you are concerned with. I am going to reach out to Element and see what their plans are in regards to this. I suspect, they may just import that housing. I will let you know what they say.

Oh wow. Wish I'd seen this question sooner. Just read about these not working correctly, from a user, if its wet. If I find the page again I'll link it.

Thanks, once it's activated water won't stop it, its getting it going when the striker is wet is what we are wondering.

Thanks so much for the legwork - Murphy’s law is my normal teacher but with the boat, I ask questions & move real slow if not USCG-approved from the jump.
I’m still a newb to the FireStryker brand, but if the 100’s from you fit the FS case (still want 2, prefer 100’s) - then that’s a convo to have.

If the 50 size is a standard of some sort, I’m open to them if the case size limits the 100.

Has anyone tried the roll bar mount on a unpadded rollbar? Also is there a valid coupon code to use?
