Can someone please tell me what this is?

I believe that's a Throttle Position Switch for the Power Valve Control System on trucks with the California emissions systems. I have one on my '78. With that switch closed (full throttle), engine warmed-up, and some other conditions, the power valve at the carb is open. I think it's just another system added to help CA engines operate with the overwhelming smog crap.

It's not Cali Spec. I thought it might have something to do with the emissions but I wasn't sure. It actually has a button on the back of it that if the gas peddle was pushed all the way down it would depress the button. Thanks for looking into it!

Thanks! I recently put a Trollhole carb in it and I have been removing all the smog crap. I think I will just remove that as well!

Pedal is red, your tub is mustard, so my guess is the part belongs to another cruiser, it looks like a Toyota bolt holding it to the bracket.

Interesting this seems to be appearing on 76's, the tub has been painted twice, and I think pieced together. Thanks for the photo and info.

My January '76 has it too. Removing it now since can't figure out what it is for. My truck has a weber 38 and the PO rigged the throttle linkage to work on it using wire twisted around the booster and even added some sharkbite parts (I'm not kidding). Converting it to the weber/TPI pedal kit and cable throttle. The pedal doesn't have the tab to hit the sensor so will remove and hold it if needed down the road.

Couldn't find anything here or manuals for what it is. I saw one reference on a wire harness post here that only says "column".

Was on my '76 (non-CA) as well - definitely a full throttle position switch. I don't have the FSM handy, but from an old thread it should activate the power valve on the OEM carb for versions with the smog pump. I'm pretty sure the smog pumps started for US spec in 76, so that does jive.

Thanks, very helpful. Mine has been desmogged and carb switched from OEM to Weber. I'll hold on in case I ever switch back to OEM. I'll add to the box with pedal and linkage along with the hog wire and sharkbite parts the PO left for me!
