Wishing I was in Paraguay but currently in Oregon
I've got an 89 FJ62 3FE and I have been having problems with hesitation when accelerating and a rough idle. I've been reading some threads regarding this problem and many seem to think and have had great results by plugging the EGR valve and the EGR vacuun modulator. Of course they are the FJ60's. Can plugging these parts be done with the 3FE?
I eventually would like to de-smog my Cruiser since we don't have any problems here in Oregon. Any imput would be great.:steer:

I am going to assess my EGR on my '88 3FE to determine if it is having issues...

One thing I have noticed is that sometimes when I wind the 3FE into RPM's that I am guessing are over 2000 RPM, there is a surge of power!

Someone on the 3FE list said that sounds like classic EGR malfunction.

Just because you do not have e-testing where you live, you may want to read up on NOx, and the EGR's role in reducing the brown cloud from NOx...

3fe's have real serious problems with carbon buildup. When you clean the egr clean the intake and the idle air control valve. You would not beleive the flakes of carbon that will fall out.

Where exactly is the ISC? I think I located it but it looks like it's threaded in. Am I correct?

Hope this helps - circled in red:

Thanks, that is a huge help. i'm currently changing and checking the hoses going into the EGR and Modulator. I tried to check the filter for the Mod and I'm not sure how to take it apart and am afraid to break it. With the ISC do I simply take it off and tap it out to clean? i appreciate the help that you've given. I'm new to this stuff but am wanting to learn:steer:

Ha...there is a ground wire that bolts up under the intake in or around the fuel rail...do you have that wire grounded? You can see it if you look in the area of the Cold injector hard ....sorry to hijack po....but this fella has been having some issues with his 3fe conversion.line.

I am not sure!

Thanks for the heads up - does it ground the ISC specifically? Do you think it could be causing my issue with idle once heat-soaked?

Do you have a picture of yours? Or is your camera still MIA?

Can anyone else show me a pic of this?

Crusier62

Are you having a surge in the 2000 rpm range?
