So what was the gain?

Watch the first video. He covers his "gains" from dragy runs as well as shows OTT's dynos and they line up pretty well.
I’m a sleep deprived father of 2 under 2. I can’t follow that scientific video.

I just enquired with VF Tuner directly as to what can be done remotely with this car (I’m in Australia), and the response was that there may be a few tuners with a base tune who can email me a file to upload.

My car is completely stock, 2016 lx570.

I know at least one tuner, as per this thread, who may be able to send one across via email. I guess the cost will be the question! Exciting times.

As I’m not trying to get the most power I can from a tune, I’m not fussed about a custom tune considering the extra time and cost. Filling in the low down torque and power under 4,000rpm is what interested me straight away, and sharpening up all gear / throttle inputs.

One interesting thing, when I previously had an ISF which I modified, and tuned, I believe I was one of the first in Aus to have a custom tune (which worked) on that platform in Aus. At the same time as he tuned, he widened the pipe work coming out of the stock cats (after the manifolds) which had a similar gain as installing headers, and was post the o2 sensors so no issue with CEL lights.

The combination of those two things completely woke the car up!! I am going to look into a similar exhaust modification on this car, as I’m presuming it will be possible too. Huge flow increase, without any significant change, or noise. Loved it.

What I have seen on the Tundra forums is that the gains from long tube headers are not that great, maybe 10hp. I would imagine there would be more gains once the truck is supercharged and you start flowing a lot more air mass.

I should add, that I also installed a simple HPS silicone intake tube between the stock air box and the throttle body in the ISF:

It allowed the standard airbox to work in all its functional and perfect ways, but gave an awesome intake growl with the removal of the factory intake with resonator chambers. I enquired with HPS and they don’t make one for the LX570.. does anyone know an alternative and retain the standard airbox?

Got the OTT tune on my Land Cruiser last week. Went for the Mild [normal operation] & Spicy [ECT PWR operation] option. The tune definitely smooths out the operation of the truck and and makes it feel a bit peppier. I would not get this tune for the horsepower/torque gains on a truck without a supercharger, but rather just for drivability.

I'd say it cuts down the transmission "quirks" by about half. The Mild setting feels pretty much like a stock pedal tuning to me. Spicy starts to feel like things are waking up. Getting re-tuned is free, so I'll probably bump up to Spicy [normal operation] & Super Spicy [ETC PWR operation]. The "Spicy" setting definitely still feels like a 200 if that makes sense. It's still relaxed. It's not redlining all over town when you just want to drive normally. But it feels more in the right gear with less over-shifting. Does not feel like the Pedal Commander at all. The pedal commander has such a huge throttle boost on tip-in. I was always dialing the pedal commander back, and mostly got used to it. For reference, I think I ended at Sport -2 on the pedal commander. Spicy mode is still much more subtle by comparison. It feels more controlled and linear, but has less of a "WOAH" effect. To me the "WOAH" effect of the pedal commander was undesirable after a few tip-ins.

HTH.

H/T to @NKP Garage going through all the steps. I felt more comfortable getting a tune once I knew more about the process.

Those are great observations! Let us know how you like it in a couple of weeks once you have more seat time. Curious to see what you think at that time and if anything changes in the way you feel about the tune.

Not much to report. Been driving in spicy almost exclusively. Felt like it might have pepped up a little bit since my first drives. Everything above still stands. Still likely to bump up to Spicy/Extra Spicy mappings when I get a minute.

@daneo @2014 LEX 570 GA
Tomorrow is my tuning day - torn between normal + spicy or spicy + extra spicy.......what's your opinion? I'm not trying to make it a sports car nor kill my MPG but if spicy + extra spicy is the favorite, I'd rather do it the first time around and not have to wait to 'upgrade' when he's back in town.
For reference if you've used the Pedal Commander, I had mine set on Sport 2+.
Thanks for input.

I wonder if there is anyway to get this tune done remotely.. as in to Australia.

The tuner will do whatever you ask and let you take it for a 20 minute test drive to make sure it is the right setting for you. Personally I would start with normal, spicy and then test drive. I haven’t used spicy a lot but have noticed it does hold a lower gear for a bit too long for normal driving in my opinion. I only use it if I need to overtake a car or several, or just feeling a little frisky.

I think I might try jumping immediately to spicy/super spicy to see if I have a knee-jerk reaction to it coming from stock, rather than boiling the frog. I've still been running spicy every day for me and my wife and we both think it's fine for a daily.

Note we're on an 8-speed and I assume @2014 LEX 570 GA is on a 6-speed, so that could spell some difference.

My tuner was saying that different platforms seem to land on different levels of spiciness for what a majority of people prefer. I think 4Runners tended to feel best in the "spicy/super spicy" and Tundra (6-speed & 3UR) tended to be preferable in the "mild/spicy" zone.

I've seen way more videos of folks tuning the 200 platform in Australia than the US. Call around to some of the shops around you and see if they use the VF Tuner hardware/software. If so, they should be able to contact Overland Tailor Tuning and join their network to get access to their tunes.

Yeah good idea

I ended up selecting Spicy/Extra Spicy as my primary and ECT tunes. The test drive went smoothly and the trucks certainly felt more responsive than stock but I will report back if I note any negative effects. Tom (Yota Tuning) was great to chat with and was happy to answer questions for the group that came to the event.

What year/transmission are you driving?
