I have a new to me '13 lx and have a 3 week family overland trip this summer and would like to add some storage in the rear. I would like to only add and/or remove items that can be put back in place so that if I ever upgrade it is not too customized. I like the goose gear but it appears that plate systems requires the removal of carpet etc.......

What system do people suggest for ease of install and the ability to take back to stock form. Thanks

Do you need the third row seats?

If not, the ARB drawers can easily be removed later with no evidence that they were ever installed. Very minor trimming of a tiny piece of carpeting for a pair of the bolts, but that is covered by the plastic trim when you remove them.

I am planning on removing the 3rd row......i think. Can the third row be put back....

Yes. I installed ARB in a 2017 LC. Then removed and reinstalled seats before I traded it in. Four bolts for each seat. Worst part is they are heavy and you need to protect the plastic from scratches as you pull them out. Sort sort of blanket or beach towel would work.

Edit: forgot you are in an LX. They can still be removed, but there is a bit more I'm not familiar with. A little searching should give you the answer.

Also consider the drawers from Land Shark outfitters. I put them in the back of my '13 LX. You have to assemble them and you can customize them as you like. Assembled its all bare wood but some people stain them, carpet them etc. There's a thread on the 200 forum with what folks have done to customize these drawers and a quick search should get you there. thats the link below

I have to say the measurements are super precise and it looks like its from the factory, minus carpeting. I've had them in for a year and they're sturdy as hell and they go in with a reversible mod to your vehicle (removing 3rd row). Plus they're a supporting vendor for this site. I'm slow so it took me weekend to do in the install but some folks do in an afternoon.

I've wanted some from Land Shark, but he had a lot going on including a move, and still isn't making them. I joined the mailing list and am eagerly awaiting an update on availability. I like the DIY aspect of it.

I think your head is in the right place in considering the Goose Gear plate. It does require removing the carpet, but I'd consider a DIY approach to a simple, removable plate. You could use some thick baltic birch and beefy spacers to secure to the seat bracket mounting points. That'd give you a good foundation for mounting anything from a fridge, to spare tire, to cargo boxes.

What are yours thoughts on marine starboard instead of wood?
Starboard is pricey, but cuts and routs really nicely. The biggest problem I have with it is that it's as slick as dry siliconed teflon and that gets pretty annoying. For me personally Baltic Birch and Line-X is pretty much a perfect solution to rear storage type projects.
