Hey guys,

Those of you with an early model 55, the ones with the upside down license plate lights, what are you doing about water and rust in them? When I picked up the pig, back in '04ish the light was rusted out, I replaced it and tried to seal it with caulk, I had to replace it again during the rebuild and now I notice rust running down the paint below the light again. SO who has some tips and tricks for getting these lights to last? I haven't looked if you can still buy replacements, but there is going to be a time when you can't

I know that Htown, got rid of the license place location completely and that is a great idea, and might be in the future, but for now, any ideas?

Thanks,
Ryan

Thanks for the idea, it made me go out and double check the gasket, but it can only go on one way and it does have the drain in the bottom. I might try and run a pipe cleaner up the drain and see if maybe it is just really clogged.

Ryan.

See if this applies to the early lights as well. I discovered this on the later style lights (which also can become water logged). The link below will give you an idea of at least something to check.

Hey Brett,

Do you have a part number?

Thanks,
Ryan

The early below the plate style lights are about $30 at the dealer new. the gaskets are crap in them, the foam degrades easily. I would purchase new and seal it up better.

Later Model Plate Lights

Anyone know if the later model license plate lights are still available anywhere? I've thought about getting mine rechromed, but my lenses are cracked and gaskets look like crap and am doing a complete restoration so want everything new or at least to look new!
