Rebuilding both the heaters for my 66 fj40. Looking for good pics of the original colors of the bodies and louvers. My under dash heater is black, but have seen some in pewter. What was the original rear heater color? Also need a good site for the control sticker that goes on the front of the box.

This came out of my buddy’s 1967 (in about 1980-81) I believe it was factory black. As you can see the control bracket was pewter. I put in my 63 that had one of those dealer installed square boxes.

Was the control bracket held on by 1 or 2 bolts? Ive got a single hole where I believe the bracket should be. It also appears that the louvers may have been coated (galvanize?) from the factory. Does anyone have good pics of some in original condition?

If there is a big hole where the bracket mounts to the bottom of the dash I because that where the Darth Vader light would be. Was removed to add the bracket for heater controls. 68 model controls moved up into the dash.

Some where I got a few of these heaters stores away. Been at least twenty years since I bought the last one. Remember at leasr one having the pewter color.

pic 42 looks pewter to me

Do you know any history on this cruiser? If this cruiser been restored, which I guess it has they no guarantee it was done 100% correct. JohnnyC was great source for factory literature. But even that I seen pictures photo cropped. Have some pictures an early soft top and later soft top of the same cruiser. Doors style was edited to later doors. I have three of these old heaters. Non were pulled by me. Never owned a pre 9/67 (68 model) with a factory. Best was one with a Nippon Denso clamshell a heater than may or any not have been factory installed.

There is an audio file with what they know of its history. They have other stuff in the range

Wish I could find one of these in tact. My ‘64 has a different heater and it must have been a port installed option as I’ve found several other pics of similar years with the same heater as mine…but the one posted above has a smaller footprint.

Does your current heater Have a separate blower unit on the fire wall in the engine compartment? On the 66 model the heater became standard in North America. 65 model was an option. Those are identified by 45° angle louvers on the intake on the side of the cowl. 66 models louvers were horizontal. Prior to the 65 models almost all heaters were installed post in the US. Some threw dealers.

If do not have a blower in the engine compartment it will be quite a chore to add a factory heater. Over the years I've gathered everything I would need to add a heater to my early 65 model FJ45.
