I've been driving sand/road for a while since I live in the middle east and I gotta say the Dunlop Grantrek AT22 is a savior. My size is 265/75R16 on OEM wheels.

The main reason I think its the best is because you can get the minimum load carrying capacity on 29psi. So in the winter (The season we hit the dunes). I set my tire pressure to 27psi and forget about it. Sand, road, easy. Sure there are times I had to go to 15psi on really soft sand but its rare. Also I do realise that 27psi is less than the recommended but honestly, its just a little but off and the difference on the sand is noticeable. It doesn't compromise on the safety and handling either.

In the off season (summer), pump those bad boys to 44psi (max) and enjoy the fuel efficiency.

For the technical bit, I researched a lot about LT tires cause I do want taller tires. What I found is that you can't do this trick cause the minimum safe load carrying capacity is at 35-45psi. Sinks in the sand at those pressures and I'd have to air down and up everytime I feel like going to the desert. So I do think those are the biggest non-LT tires out there with clean sidewalls.

Here are a few pictures for people curious about the looks.
