Dumb ass?? For those that know, will a front Pass seat belt also work properly on D/S? (8/‘85 fj60)

Can you remove the P/S seat belt & properly install it on the D/S?

I need to replace the D/S seat belt (the part you pull over with your left hand). In another town is my parts 60 (‘84 60) which has the P/S belt but not the D/S. Can I use the P/S on the D/S?

I know Seat Belt Planet is also an option, but I’d prefer to use my OEM if it’s doable.

If you know for sure, please let me know. Thanks.

Bump please.

Come on guys, surely someone has tried to replace a tired worn out D/S belt from a less used P/S. Does the switch over work?

OEM is NLA & I don’t want to buy a different belt if not necessarily.$$

@John McVicker I don’t have personal experience with this, but after some googling and reading other posts it sounds like the mechanisms are physically different by design. In short, no they can’t be swapped side to side.

Thanks @klinetime574 basically that’s what my searches have indicated too. Some searches I have read indicate it’s ’possible‘ but I’m having a hard time figuring out what needs to be done, let alone be comfortable that it can be done.

I’m still working on my OEM belt, after my massaging it’s working better than before and now at least I can drive it. Most likely will end up going to SeatBeltplanet for a replacement. But for now I’m still fiddling with mine.

If I go with their replacement it’s +$400 for both front sides vs zero if I can get my OEM to work.

The inertia lock working in the opposite direction is the reason this won’t work.

Ok @cruisermatt that makes total sense when you stop to think about it.

@mongoose2231 Thanks and yeah, right or wrong, that’s the conclusion I’ve come to also. Was unable to fix mine so had to order aftermarket.
