I always thought that acetelyne (spelling impossible while drinking beer) made huge explosions. I agree with the debate..... however watching mythbusters... hmmmm this is a cool experiment.

I totally glazed over it being acetelyne as was thinking propane. Acetelyne doesn't really explode real big - well, not compared to oxygene and acetelyne. I remember welding class teacher filling a ballon really big with acetelyne - then lighing it with a torch. Made a nice fire ball and lots of black smoke and soot. Then he made a small ballon with a mix of oxygen and it exploded and sounded like the building was going to come down. I would expect some black soot.
 
Well, you have to think that the air in the car has about 20% oxygen, so there still would be an explosion, just not as intense as a pure oxygen rich enviornment.
