Dry rot on 4.5 year old Falkens? (1 Viewer)

Falken embarring if you ask me. I'd take those right back to the Falken tire shop. There's no Falken way that's acceptable after only a few years use. Falken disgrace!

I'm really surprised that you have that much wear on 38,000 mile tires. On the Ram I ran 35x12.5 AT3W out to 50k miles and still had 10-11/32 left. Replaced them only because I run a ton on white roads and want the best possible contact. Even with running those at 35 psi on a 9,000 lbs truck for half the year they were in great shape when I took them off and sold them for $75 each.

It's really hard to make a definitive case on those tires. To me they look like they've served you well under some challenging use and don't own you a dime. Those tires were probably 18/32 or 19/32 when new. At 6/32 you would only get 24-25% of value max anyway.

I've ran AT3W's on three trucks now and am about to try the AT4Ws on another. They're the best I've found for my use case.

Who was it that said Falkens were overpriced cheap a$$ tires using cheap steel plies from day one??

Oh yeah…ME. I took flake from lots of “senior” folks here. Hmmm, as time goes on, I have pretty much been spot on with many things….

The LT-rated Falkens come with significantly more tread depth than my P-rated set did. According to Falken's website, my tires came with 13/32 from the factory.

Four of my tires are at 6/32nd, meaning just over 50% tread used. The fifth is at 9/32nd. Also keep in mind that I ran my winter tires during three of the four winters, meaning that my 38,000m mileage is actually quite a bit more than these Falkens have actually seen. I'd ballpark their real mileage as no more than 30,000m.

And only 3 of the 5 tires show any abnormal, alignment-caused wear. The other 2 are just fine, and yet they still show the same cracks. If not for these cracks, I'd get another 2, maybe even 3 years of use out of this set.

I'm disappointed by the dismissive decision of the shop & factory more than anything else.

Tires should be replaced at 2/32. As such, there is only 11/32 of usable tread. Thus if your tires are at 6/32 then you have used 7/11 so more like 63%. At least that is my thinking and what is shown in the chart above.

When I have seen dry-rot on tires it is on the side walls.

My point earlier ... was maybe they are 8 year old tires? or 10 year old. You can tell by the serial number.

No, they were manufactured in the last week of February, 2020, and installed in the second to last week of May, 2020.
