Sounds like a nice setup Rednexus. I have a cold air intake on another vehicle and that is noisier than the aftermarket muffler I put on the vehicle.
Almost a drone with the CAI when I want more power. Your setup is sounding pretty intriguing. 👍 I would hope for not so much drone.
I hope to keep my GX 'Luxury', ie quiet. I might want to stop at a gear change... but more snap/power is always better!
Hmmm...

I have no drone with the aFe CAI under part-throttle cruising, but it is loud when you step on it (not obtrusively such, but it's a good deep/throaty roar that I love). It also has a rubber plug for one of the two inlets, and the plug makes things quieter. I leave it un-plugged except when towing (as the roar gets a bit annoying on every hill when dragging our camper up it), or when I might have a water crossing or a lot of dust.

If you want things nice and quiet but want more power, just add the DT headers and keep everything else stock. You'll have only a nominal increase in noise that is not really noticeable. The CAI provides a pretty small power boost anyway (maybe 5-7 hp), and IMO is otherwise not a good upgrade unless you want the sound and a better/reusable air filter.

I think calling it an "overland" exhaust is because it's tucked up under the rails, providing more clearance and it's lighter which in a very small way translates to better fuel economy, which means longer range on the same amount of fuel. All tenants of "overlanding".

obviously not requirements to be able to overland, but I think it's obvious it's a marketing angle.

I would absolutely love an aftermarket exhaust that's as quiet as stock though. Unfortunately the stock muffler is larger than most carry on suitcases and with 35's and armor and drawers and a fridge, cutting all unnecessary weight becomes important.

Got mine back from the shop today. Shorty headers, flowmaster high flow cats welded in, factory piping from there back. It is noticeably peppier but not a racecar. Ticking is gone. No CEL. No O2 manipulation required. Still quiet as a mouse! Total cost was over $2k with new dealer gaskets/studs/nuts. Hoping the old factory cats are worth something at the scrap yard.

$2K total with new cats and labor is a pretty good deal, considering how difficult that install is.

NVM....

Late to the game on your thread, but I found it! 🤙🏼

Great beta here! As you know I'm in the weeds in my headers right now and you're experiences have been super helpful.

I didn't know you're running a mod on the secondary rails ... head holes plugged, what's the setup you're running to bypass this? Is this exhaust gas recirculation emissions stuff?

I'm inexperienced with high heat primer and paint, what brand did you go with? I may use that for touching-up scratches but I'm also thinking of shortening the driver side rail then repainting it it Like you did on your new tabs.

What was your process in aligning all the flanges and chasing leaks? I assume new. Dough it's @ flanges and. Conical doughnut @ Y-pipe...

Ummm.. I'll probably have more questions, but I'm @ the step where I got both headers dry fitted, cats augered to sleeve on header outflow, bolted up y-pipe flanges and downstream all bolted and hung.
Tacked cats to headers and got it all back out on the bench for buddy's maad tig skillz.
