The black cover piece in picture #2 I think that reveals the bolts to take off the side mirror does not need to be removed to get the door panel off .. just my 2 cents..

true, but it is better to remove it if you want to preserve the panel vinyl intact.

There are a couple of tools you can buy that make removal of the pop-in clips (on the back of the panel) a breeze.

Glad you mentioned that. I have a mechanic buddy and he loaned me the tool I have pictured below and it made unseating the pop-in clips a breeze.

By following this procedure, the door panel removal is less than a 5 minute job, thanks again dnp!

Sorry for the picture quality.......cell phone.

Thanks DNP! I can now remove my door panel with confidence! I don't know how many times i have tore up the cardboard backing because I did not know how many attachment points there were and and there locations. I have put off changing my front speakers for this very reason. This will make changing my speakers a breeze!

Glad it helped! Sorry I haven't gotten to the rear doors yet......

I did a write up for the 100 series front doors for the same reasons......

Question still

I have done everything as mentioned. Still seems to be stuck around speaker enclosure. Is there anything other than clips in that area? I don't want to break anything. Eventually going to replace speakers, but now just need to lubricate window tracks, etc . Thanks in advance....:)

Do you have stock speakers? If not maybe the speaker wires are holding the panel back, also, a butter knife works great as a flat tool

Now...with the door panel off, how easy is it to remove the leather panel insert on the front of this panel? I have Shane's replacement and the upholstery shop just wanted to much to remove the door panels. If I can follow this great procedure, what's left to take the leather section off the panel?

Brent,

I don't think you'll want to try to replace the (p)leather inserts in the door. Reference the first picture on page one as you read along. . .

You need to remove the rigid plastic portion at the top of the panel (the part your arm would rest on) - not terrible, but you have to be able to put it back on as well.

Then look at the junction between the (p)leather insert and the lower portion of the door; specifically look at the chrome plastic strip dividing the two surfaces, this appears to be heat welded to both surfaces. This is where I stopped and would defer to an experienced installer. The job is just a little too far outside my skillset to meet with my OCD for reassembly.

Just remove the panels and drop them off at the shop!

I just removed the panel and unplugged the fixture from behind. No need to remove the lense at all.

6. Remove the light fixture at the bottom of the door panel, and unplug the wiring to it. (NOTE: it may be easier to remove this light fixture after you pop loose the rivets found in step 7. The lens is held on in a way that it’s easy to crack unless you pop out the entire light housing before you remove the lens. I don’t know the best way to do this, so some of the other people might have some suggestions on this........If anyone has a good suggestion on this, let me know, and I’ll update this thread with your recommendation. Thanks.)

Nice pix and write up! Thanks much.

Did you replace the plastic panel rivets/fastners with new ones? If so, where did you get them?

Nice write up for sure...

When I did the doors on my 40 I used some mastic I got at the parts store meant for windshield installations, stays pliable and can be easily manipulated. I bought some vapor barrier at Lowes and reinstalled. :D

Thanks for the write-up. Replaced my window run tonight and this was extremely helpful. :steer:

Another thanks here for the writeup! Just replaced my front door speakers and I would have spent an extra hour or two trying to figure out where all the screws for the door panel were located.

Bringing up an old thread, but while trying to source new door panels I'm curious - are 93/94 door panels the same as 95-97? Thanks
