Door Lock replacements

I have a question concerning Door locks. I need to replace both the Door locks on the doors and I am wondering which is the best way to go? Factory door locks from AutoZone for $39.99 or is there another idea? I heard a rumor that you can use Ford locks from old 70's style pickups? I have had one Toyota stolen because they used an old Toyota key to get into it. If anyone has tried anything and it works please let me know before I go spend $40.

40 bucks is cheap.. ford locks on a toyota. that is pretty cool.
please post up how this works. I will swap both of mine.

New door locks from Toyota list for $62 ea, $46 ea from a discount dealer. If you buy them one at a time they won't match and you will need to key both to match your ignition, or key one so the doors match. Are the Autozones sold in pairs, or each?

I just replaced the key cylinders on my 4Runner. You will need to rekey them if you want them to match your ignition. You can have them for my cost to ship them.

It doesn't seem likely that the Ford cylinders would have the ideal linkage the factory pieces have. Cal Mini Truck sold me new cylinders for $40 to replace the ones some idiot ruined trying to break into a '90 4Runner. We're living with the need for two separate keys for ignition and doors. IMO, you should pick up Pappy's.
