So I've got a 1969 FJ55 and a 1973 FJ55. The '73 has 2 doors off a 1976 pig on it along with its stock '73 doors. Can I put the 1973 doors and 1976 doors on my 1969?

Try it. I have 71 doors that I plan on using on my 74. The look like they will work.
Probably. If the doors fit the '73, they'll fit the '69.
The difference in the front doors happened around '76 with the change in the A pillar angle...back doors will work, not all front doors will work.

the front door change was after september of 76. all doors should swap till that production month. after that, all rear doors swap, but not the fronts...

I know the 78 gates don't have the Toyota embossed and the lights are oriented to the side of the tag, unlike the older that shine from the bottom, but are there any other changes/comparability issues?

all the gates should swap, but minor diffs in appearance. the 77 tailgate doesn't have TOYOTA either, not sure when that changed, but AFAIK, it was before sept of 76. the license plate lights changed to to sides from the bottom of the plate before sept of 73, based upon my collection.
My original concern regarding tailgate interchangeability was reading that 78 gates weren't interchangeable with previous years, so that stuck out.
Wound up with a new gate that the original sales ticket stated "78 FJ-55" (has vin on ticket too, which I need to find, to determine production date).
Keep in mind, part of a package deal, but originally intended for the 72 strict resto, to replace this tailgate.
I'm sure you can see what's wrong with it, considering a 72, but at the time, I assumed it was an OE 72 tailgate, which this would've matched, once I cut the embossed off the older out and sectioning into it.

Then yesterday, Texican posted a 78 for purpose of determine paint scheme accuracy and it is the later style gate. (On left).
All that said, I can't use the new gate on the 72 since the lights aren't correct and don't have need for new gate on 76, since it's not in bad shape, as far as I can tell.
Have a 71 gate for 72 that is accurate, so now have an unknown, or incorrectly dated gate per invoice, and reason for querying.

forgot all about the tail light change in 78 and 79...the new gate you have must be for early half of 78...I think the TL change up was in sept of 78. toyotas mid year change ups sure did cause some confusion over the years. the production year for a given vintage ended in august, with the next years model starting production in september...who's gunna be the lucky bastage what ends up with the NOS tailgate?...FWIW, the earlier gates would work on the later models albeit with an offish appearance
