Couple of other newbie questions. I'm just a newbie to this site. I've had my BJ60 for 15 years now.

Question1 : What does Dan mean by "If you switch to Keystone, ". What the heck is Keystone.

Question2: People refer to POS. Is that Piece of S!@#?
It didn't make sense it that context.

Answer 1: Keystone is a cheap beer (spend less on beer more for ???)

Answer 2: POS = Piece of S!@#, PO's = Previous Owner's

Good luck in your search!

Just my two cents. I checked the KBB value of my crusier and its at 10k. It has some miles but otherwise it is in perfect condition. I live down in South Carolina where if it doesn't have a bowtie on the front grill then it can't offroad, so many people overlook crusiers as more of luxury items. Last time I checked you could probably pick up a '95 80 for maybe 18k. They are cheap as dirt down here. Heck even at the Toyota dealship they don't know what a FJZ80 is. I would go with semlin's advice, come to the states.

May I suggest www.traderonline.com They have a lot of listings, you could probably find SOMETHING a little closer to you. I was looking through them and either none of the TLC's have lockers or dealers just don't know how much they are worth. Out of say about 20 TLC's I clicked on only about 1 of them had locking differentials on the list of options, and I know that some of them had to have it. So I wish you luck with your quest for the holy grail ....tryin my hardest to tie in monty python in some way or another.

Also Keystone isn't cheap, it's pretty high-class down here. If you want to save money you can get a 40oz malt liquer for a buck fifty. That will save you some money. You all should drink the great southern classics like Country CLub, or Pap's Blue Ribbon, or Olde English 800. Those are quality alcoholic beverages.

'60 to an 80 and the regret factor out there'

I could wheel with air on, 80+ mph with my 60. Fj that is :D

"Colorado nonoffroadingmallqueenCruisers, as they never see anything more than the speed bumps at mall (CO rock climbing)."

Hay...I resemble that coment. :-X

You can definitely pick up a 95 TLC for way less than 18K.

:D :D

:o

Your comment abou missing the BJ60 scares me. I love my 60 but it's a not a highway cruiser. I truely worry that I'll spend a lot of dough on a used 450, sell my 60 and then end up missing it. ARe you still glad to have made the switch?

The thought of quite crusing, listening to my stereo, with AC on and then getting to my favorite back woods lake over a super tough rough sounds so inviting. Maybe I should start another thread on the topic of upgrading from a 60 to an 80 and the regret factor out there. I look to you comments.

::) ::) ::) ::)

Benie:

I'm just trying to scare you :D! The difference between a 60 and an 80 as a daily driver is huge and you will not regret the change. I had an 82 BJ60 and as much as I loved it, it was a harsh truck and lots of stuff was starting to go (all the small bits). If I had (or if you have) the cash I would have kept the 60 (and I do plan to buy one again someday as a 'hobby' truck).

As you mentioned, it is really nice to have the extra power, leather seats, full lockers, etc and be driving along a nice trail with sunroof open and 6 pack CD player going! I find that I have the same love-hate relationship with this truck as my 60 - I love it 90% of the time, but hate it at times for requiring some new $500 part.

I use mine to haul kids, dog, dirt, lumber, etc and I think it makes a wonderful daily driver. You may find that you miss a few things: the 60 is a really simple truck / easily field maintainable (I had mine in Yellowknife); not positive, but the 60 seems to have more cargo/sleeping space; diesel is great - I would get something like 900km/tank; diesel is great in 1st low going downhill there was so much compression that I could probably have hopped out taken a pee and then jumped back into the truck :D; diesel is great you can drive around in the water without problem

but the 80: more power, better safety (IMHO), lockers, comfort items (sunroof, leather, CD player, comfortable seats), less rust, etc

Good luck finding an LX450

Cheers, Hugh

Thanks, that makes me feel better. Now I just have to go find one. An added bonus would be to convince the wife to let me keep the BJ60 and store it in my sister's barn.

Bennie not sure where you are but there is white LX450 for sale at the new Kia dealership on Prior/Venables Street in Vancouver. Just drove past it yesterday. Asking $34,850. Only comment I will make is that I looked at one the same colour six months ago at another dealer that turned out to be a salvage title. If the VIN# is JT6HJ88J0V0158235 then PM me and I will send you the carfax.

Hi Semlin - Thanks for the info. I just called about that 450 today but didn't get through. There is another at Century Auto in North Van but I haven't been able to get other there yet. Pardon the dumb question but what's a "PM" (and I'm a techie). How do you like the White color?

General - Anybody know much about the V8 that's in a 97 LX 450? I though the switch to V8 didn't happen until the 470. Comments on that engine combo welcomed.

Hi Benie, I think I know the answer to your questions!

PM = private/instant message, if you click on the little icon of a piece of paper and an envelope, located below the avatar or user name, it brings up a screen that allows you to send a private message to that person. If you're logged in, look at the top of the page right now and you will see that you have a message, sent you sample PM.

All LX450's are a 4.5 liter straight six cylinder (hence 450) and the LX470 is a 4.7 liter V8 (hence 470) My guess is the seller has no clue, tha salesman told him it had a big powerful V8 when he bought it (the salesman probably didn't know better either). It's amazing how many people never open the hood to their vehicle, or can't even figure out how to see how many cylinders they have!

:P CDan, junk and others, please do not bust my balls as I realize the displacement of the engines mentioned above are probably some CC's away from the rounded figures :o ::)

(another pad for me, my post count is way up! :) )

You have been sufficently self-chastised :D

Of all the FZJ80s I've seen in ads, the few that actually mention they have the diff locks seem to go for $3K or so more. I've noticed that these rigs, or ones where there are photos that show the magical switch and the seller doesn't know what it is, sell very quickly while others sit on the market forever. It seems to me that most of the 80 buyers buy them to wheel. I've only seen one 100 for sale that specifically mentioned it had the rear diff lock, and it sold quickly ('99 for $20K, I seem to recall w/ about 130K mi).
