l'm going to store my HJ47 for the next 5 mths following a recent accident after its been repaired so l can complete its restoration for next summer. Anyway l'm thinking about buying a 1991 PZJ77V Landcruiser as my daily, it has the 5 cylinder 3.5L engine... Does anyone have any info on the model.. what to look for, comon faults etc;

Thanks

It's a good reliable engine. Don't be in a hurry, it has just over 100 hp. Everything the 1HZ is, the PZ is less of. Broad general parts compatibility with 1HZ, but things like rebuild kits, head gaskets etc. may be getting very scarce, it was only made for 9 years I think?

I don't know why it was ever developed.

Basically the same in most regards to any HZJ77, except for the engine minus one cylinder. Like @Tennessee Jed said, anything specific to the 5-cylinder nature of the engine will be getting hard to find.

In general, like with any old LandCruiser, look for rust, worn bushings, leaking knuckles, good cold start, low smoke output, etc. The benefit is that it should be pretty straightforward to swap in a 1HZ should the 1PZ bite the dust.

Pretty sure the 1PZ was intended to be a replacement for the B series engines, but in hindsight there was really no need.

All PZJ77 are manuals while some HZJ77 are automatics.

In fact I think anything PZJX is manual.

The 1PZ is a great engine but as others said, parts that are 1PZ specific can be difficult to find. I owned a PZJ70 for a short time.

are you looking at one specifically? I ask because it seems like there is one 1991 pzj77 that keeps changing hands here in the US. Its white, manual transmission.

There was a white 4 door pzj for sale on bat that didnt make reserve, then it was traded in at some random Mazda/Volvo dealership in lubbock texas for a long time before it finally sold. I want to say it was like 11,000 bucks which i found to be pretty cheap. I got cold feet due to the motor not having a large following.
