Hi Guys,

purchased a full set of these from Steve at SMS headliners.

http://www.smsheadliners.com/

this is the guy that is selling the full kits for our piggies.

First let me say he is a hell of a nice fellow and does some damn good work at reasonable prices. I am very happy with the quality of his work.

That being said I am unsure if I have the right panels here for my vintage year (1970). I am in no way a purist so I am not concerned about them being period specific but rather fitting correctly.

Please keep in mind that I purchased this truck completely broken down so I don't have much to go on here.

My main concern / questions are:

- First Pic, On the drivers side rear cargo panel my new panels have a cutout on them for the fuel inlet. When I lay a flat bar across the cargo inner rib rails it is flat and does not hit the fuel inlet. However below on the pinch weld the lip come in about an inch, which I assume is whey the cutout and a filler scoop piece is needed. Any advice? Also, does the 1970's vintage year have vents in the rear cargo panel? I thought I did not have these vents originally. Do these vents mount to metal behind the cargo panel in oem form, or are they just bolted/screwed to the cargo panel? I know someone was remaking these at one point, are they still available?

- 2nd / 3rd / 4th pic: drivers side rear door, just making sure that this is how it is supposed to fit. I asked Steve to delete the ashtray holes. One area I was unsure about was the door latch area. I see that I have a shallow recess there. Is that how this is supposed to be? I am assuming that there are rods there to activate the door latch.

- 5/6/7: same questions as above on this front drivers side door

thx guys, appreciate the help with the stupid questions. This project is somewhat mothballed but have been acquiring parts for many years. All the door parts, etc are all boxed up and stored. Eventually it will get done.

Guppie,

It seems you have the later style rear panel. The older wagons, and I'm not sure of the dates, don't have the vents. My 71 doesn't have them. There are two different sizes for the fuel inlet opening and you will need the metal piece for either one.

You are correct about the door handle rods, that is where they go. I hope to be putting mine back together in a couple months and will be taking some pictures as I go. There's a whole lot of stuff going on in a door.

You are correct on the orientation of the panel, you just have to orientate the clip tabs so they hit all the mounting holes. Here is my front door with the hardware installed:

On the rear I couldn't find a reason for the fuel cutout for my '79 so I had him delete it, I do have the quarter panel vents though. There is a "Z" shaped plastic piece that routes air from the outer vent to the hole in the panel. I bought these inner grills from Ige to trim out the panel:

Guppie,

Those panel vents are connected via duct work, to an outside vent. Your year wagon, doesn't have those body vents.

Just checking, wasn't sure if you were aware. How about sending those rear panels back and getting the earlier style.

I thought they were ashtray holes! :)

on the metal filler piece, from what i remember, it just screws to the panel, not to metal behind the panel. there were clips that the screws went into on the panel.
