Do I need the fan shroud?

1) Lower outlet of the radiator showing the fan shroud mod and the tab to mount the shroud to the radiator support.

2) Top bracket holding the radiator into the radiator support bracket.

3) Last pic shows how I moved the radiator support bolts to be off center. This moved the radiator forward about one inch.

Top, side and front views of the whole setup mounted in the Cruiser.

I'll be heading up to UNF this weekend for some wheeling, so I'll get to test out the cooling capability of the aluminum radiator as well as the front and rear aussie lockers!!!

Yeah but what if the Cruiser is on a conveyor belt?
Well then it's on an assembly line and it doesn't matter because we've gone back in time to when the 40s were new and that's a lot cooler than what is essentially a discussion on something most people don't think twice about.

By the way the install looks pretty good, what brand of radiator is it? The ones I've done require a lot more cutting of the factory core support.

This may not aply to all but when I install the 6.2 it heated up almost instantly without the shroud which gave me a heart thump. However with a shroud installed there has been no heating isues at all in any situation.I,ve had two 2Fs without shrouds and no problems but if your weeling slow on and off the throttle they heat up.ther you have it.

Is it a 3 or 4 row core?

Will the fan shroud from the '75 - '84 FJ-40 fit a 2F motor swapped in from an FJ-60?

The new (FJ-60) fan diameter is bigger than the hole in my earlier shourd - I wondered if I should order the later shroud (But since it's from a 40, will it work?) I'm keeping the -40 radiator.

I just finished putting a shroud in mine. I ran it with electric for awhile and it would keep the motor at the selected temperature, but the underhood temps were pretty high. I tried using a blade flex with no shroud and the temp would slowly climb if stuck in traffic. With a 19" 7 blade clutch fan the temp stayed on the thermostat even without a shroud. To be safe and to account for a little radiator clogging (darn mud) and obscene high ambient temperatures I made a fiberglass shroud. The main part is pretty thick, the part that comes out to the blades is thinner so if the blades get into the shroud it will just eat the weak parts.

This is with a SBC, the Toyo 6 is supposed to be easier to keep cool, but think of it as insurance.

That's pretty cool - you should build a boat next!

Anyone know if the FJ-60 fan blade is bigger diameter than the FJ-40 ("76-'84)?

Thanks

Rocky
