Distributor Question

Hello,

I am attempting to install a new vaccum advance distributor on my 78 2f. I cannot get it to seat any further down. Is this as far as it should go? It looks like there is about 1/8 " before it is flush. I took off the clamp for the pic.

That does not look to be down all the way. You might try pulling it out and seeing where the oil pump slot as an reinstall it.

I assume that is a stock dizzy.

I'm not a guru, just someone who fawked it up and learned from his lesson. Do not run the engine if there is no oil pressure.!!!!!!

Romer, yes it is a Toyota vaccum advance I got from Specter. I am not sure why it won't go down anymore it is lined up with the oil pump as per the factory manual...

Pay attention ROMER! He didn't say you were a dizzy guru, but a dizzy "install" guru. On that, I would concur. The amount of information you collected on this subject is 'dizzying'!!!!! I plan to send ALL install questions your way too. SO get used to it!

Not sure it will help you, but you may gleem something out of it.

There is something obstruction the distrubutor. Feel around the distributor and see if there is something along the side cover it is catching on. My problem was one of the screws for the heater hose that I moved. Couldn't see it, but it prevented movement. If you can't find anything external. pull out the dizzy and check your O ring, look in the hole with a flash light. If you still can't find anything, take a long screwdriver and place it in the shaft. Mark where it is flush and compare to the dizzy.


You didn't really say it was a stock 2F OEM dizzy, you said it was a Toyota Vacuum advance you got from Spector. If its not the same, maybe the shaft is longer. Compare to the old one.
