The winch fits. There is also room inside the bumper for the control box. Any 12k will fit but this bumper will be designed around this one. If you want to run a different brand you may have to get creative with the control box. I just don't have the resources to test all different brand winches. I do like the wireless feature on this one and the clutch side is easily rotatable. More pics to come.

As you can see, easy access to the free spool and controls. There is a grill support that will need to be trimmed. This is pretty common to do on these vehicles. Also the frame ends will need to be cut like done with the slee bumper. The only way to get around this is to build an extremely bulky bumper.

I'm also thinking of offering a small skid that bolts on the bumper and under the stock skid. Something that will cover the ac condenser that sticks out past the stock skid. I'll keep you guy posted on what I come up with.

Are you sticking with the round cutouts? Or are you still gonna experiment with the slot style?
I may cut some templates of different styles and tape them on there to get ideas. It is probably going to have to be one or the other. I like the round because you could easily cut them different if wanted. I will need to talk to the shop and see if will cost more to have different options. Maybe we need a vote. Let me know who wants round and who wants something different.

Here are a few examples. Not 100 series but gives some ideas.

Benc,
The bumpers you posted in that last post are outstanding!!
Especially that last one on the white vehicle.
Is that what you are planning for the 100 series? NVM see where you posted above the pics.

Very Nice!

A few different cut out templates over the main piece may be a good way to envision how it would end up like! Liking it so far!
Are those 3" holes?

Just went through the whole thread. Bumpers look great.
Makes me want to get any a 100 series

Please let me know if you start making 80 series rear bumpers.

Ben i'd like something other than the round holes, yes.

I REALLY like the looks of this one, all the way down to the stinger...

Thanks for experimenting. I like the look/concept but can you explain why the openings have to be so large?

I could maybe shrink them up a little but the size they are at now (4") make it very easy to access the winch. The pic with the dark 4runner looks to be about 2 1/2" and that would make it very difficult for someone with large hands to access the controls.

I agree with the access need for sure. But to me those holes dominate the bumper and detract some from the looks. If they have to be that large maybe make them square with rounded corners? Or shrink them some?

If nobody else agrees I'm all good :)

Glad this thread popped to the top. No luck finding it before. I put a deposit down on a DIY, this thread has some great pics and discussion. Love that there are folks looking to build a competent hundy without creating a 8k lb behemoth.

I like it :-)

I love the way this looks! Generally my vote is for easy access and sheilding the synthetic cable from sun and debris as much as possible.

I should be able to get it mounted on my 100 this weekend. At that point I will experiment a little more.
