What’s the cons against differential lockers
with the 80’s all wheel drive.
And what type of lockers are recommend (affordable)

Sick of my grocery getter getting stuck every time I take
it off-road.

I dont mean to be an Ahole but this has been covered a lot and woudl be best for you everyone else to read those threads first and then if you still have specific questions to ask those and would be glad to get into it.

Cons

1) More expensive to purchase, whether factory or aftermarket
2) Gets you stuck worse than if you didnt have the lockers
3) Increase strain on diffs and shafts - problems surface AFAIK with Mongo tyres.

Suitable Types? Well, there's a lot to think about such as:

1) Smoothness of ride, (do you want to hear a detroit unlock as you hunt for a parking spot at the mall?)
2) Do you want to have a locker on demand, or "on" all the time?
3) How much money do you really want to spend?
4) How big are the tyres you want to run?
5) Do the benefits of a locker outweigh the costs for your application? What exactly is your application?

There are so many variables that need to be isolated before good advice can be dispensed. Also, there is a search you might want to do...

Cheers

DD,

there was a guy recently who put a aussie locker in the rear diff only he had some great pics on the installation and his comments that it performed well...some guys install the ARB setup kinda pricey though around 3 k for front and back...good luck

I thought your better shot are ARB .. good instalation means no problems and you can forget it on the road. So are very expensive ..

Wow, I didn't realize the FJ80's were that incapable.

Why are you assuming it is the truck? :flipoff2:

It’s not an assumption it’s fact, I’ve wheeled
other vehicles on the same terrain and same
spot with no problems

For some reason, maybe because the LC articulates
so well, I don’t know but once I lose traction
with one front and one rear it’s shovel wench
or tow time.

I think you just described the Main Pro.

I have an Aussie in the rear of my FJ40 and it does take getting use to in slow tight turns in parking lots. They make noise and takes a different way of drive to keep the rig from jerking.

The ARB will allow you to turn the locker on or off at will.

Factory style lockers can be engaged quickly, but not instantly like the ARB's

I would recommend you get a locker for the rear at a minimum. That will solve 90% of your problem. If you put one in the front, ONLY USE a selectable type locker like ARB or factory.

the arb's are like 800 each and the compressor is like another 200. With the Arb's you can get cool parts from Slee like his air manifold and the compressor bracket so you can mount the compressor very neatly. You can also hook everything up to work of the factory dial switch and even have the Diff lights in your dash come on.

Hours of reading on this board about differant locker options.
