Howdy,

What's the difference between front upper shock pins from 58-10/77 and 10/77-1984

Here is what I noticed. My May 1968 FJ40 pins seem to be M12x1.5mm thread at the shock side. It's the same thread as the rear top shock thread on the tube.

For the front pins, when I put the shock cup washers on each side of the OME shock, there seems little space left for the castle nut. I think I would have to over compress the shock rubber bushings to get the cotter pin in.

So I am wondering is the later style are slightly longer at the shock side to prevent the over compression.

Feedback highly desired

Ernie

I think the difference is in where it fits into the mount one is smaller and one is bigger diameter of the hexagonal shape part so if you get the smaller one and bolt it into the shock tower it will still spin I think,
I may be wrong.

I am pretty sure the newer ones do not have the cotter pin hole, if I am talking about the same pins. Silver one is front off a 1974 FJ40 and yellow cad is new one
Diameters measure the same, the newer one is longer on the threads only, possible to add lock washer and/or locking nut,
Not sure if this helps....
