I am living in Japan right now and getting ready to head back to the states for Grad School. I have been thinking about putting my truck up for sale to someone in Canada and would like to know what to ask for it. It is a RHD 1990 strait axle four door hilux truck with a 1kz-te engine and an auto trans. Clean in and out on a solid frame, this truck has not been off road, (I have a Samurai for that :D.). 130K on the engine with regular maintenance. It has new 33 super swampers on Mickey Thompson rims and 3 in lift. Just lookin’ for a ball park figure. Will try to put some pics up later. Thanks for the forums great info!!!

I'd say 15,000 in Canada. If one were to somehow legally get that same rig into the US, I'd put it at 20-25K. (note: I have no idea how to legally get one of those into the US).

In the next couple of years I'm looking to import just the double cab body and pickup bed, and I'm expecting 5K+ for that when the time comes, if that's any indication...

Pics! Pics!

So there is actually one car which is more expensive over there than back here... A friend of mine got a 97 mod double cab with solid front axle and rhd. He bought it a few years ago for about 18k. It is one of two in Norway. He runs 38s with air-lockers f/r and some other mods...

Coooooool truck!

Wait to see pix as well

This one belongs to a friend of mine in Thailand. I wish I had one like that here.

A few pix of the local one... with 38s...

It has icelandic flares for up to 44s. It sits on 15x12 rims. With a 2LII engine (he has a turbo kit waiting to be installed). He has cut so much that he had to move his batteries to the spare wheel space underneath the car.

It is wicked!!!

WOW....

What else can you say????

No idea what it would be worth either, however if you would be so kind as to stuff a first gen cab into your box i would pay part of the shipping.
Have wanted to convert my truck to a four door ever since i seen one in Holand years ago.

It's not so much Toyota USA's fault as it is the regulations concerning diesels here in the US. I think it sucks. You guys are right though...so many better models to chose from abroad...here we're stuck with what seems to be slim pickings when it comes to our Yotas (not that I have anything against Yotas obviously...but still). I'd love to have one of those diesel DC Hilux models...those are awesome.

It's the regulations, and Toyota North America. They both suck. If the regulations weren't overly restrictive on smaller diesel vehicles, we'd see more. If Toyota N.A. really cared then they'd work to get the emissions changed and spend less time making Tacomas and Tundras bigger and shinier.

While there is a lot of power going into keeping the good stuff regulated out, there's an awful lot of work not being done by Toyota N.A. to fight that--and I believe that they don't fight it because they have been able to make too much money American-izing their lineup. Here's a thought: buying a new Taco or Tundra is tantamount to subsidizing the ban on the awesome Hiluxii (yeah: Hiluxii--I said it :) )

I firmly believe that if the 1991 22R-E and 2LT-E powered vehicles would have been on the same showroom floor--the diesel would have outsold the gas engined vehicle by a margin of 4 or 5 to 1--there's that much of a difference.

Fight the power! Convert your early trucks!
