The previous owner said it was black when he bought it... ( bottom inside skirt of fender , firewall, inside of hood )
I dunno if that was factory or not..., but i cannot imagine a dealership would want to paint those pieces as it would seem like they need to pull the truck apart...

:: shrug ::

almost 100% sure it was black...i'll see if i can find a factory pic :)

EDIT: found a pic from 1964 manual...sorry it took so long :)

Found a pic of a pre 1960 FJ25
Fire wall = black
fenders = body color & black
seems all is possible...

...and can be done.
Choice is by the new owner what he/she likes more all in body color or .....

My 62 firewall is definitely green from the factory, but the bottom of the hood might have been black, where I see paint it looks black not green even if I clean it.

All the info I have ever seen for it to be done properly, shows that it had to be black for our early rides...just as Cruiser_Nerd, Living in the Past, and JohnnyC, have pointed out, and finally that pic that a.greenspan posted up looks pretty clear to me.

The most compelling reason to do it is due to what your PO told you...that it was black, so it is all up to you, as it is YOUR rig. That being said, if your were to ask me, I am going with black on mine, cause that is what my research shows to be correct for our old cruisers.

Moving along........

That is freaken great to see it finally painted...I am really excited for you Destin :bounce::bounce2::bounce:

You and I have gone back and forth so many times since you first signed up, from the correct sized tires, to where you are today...man what a journey.

This rig will look fantastic once completed...can't wait to read more as you finally start the final assembly.

Congrats man...Congrats :cheers::cheers::cheers:

This too would not surprise me, stranger things have been seen. It is still a mystery why they did the black. :)

As personal preferences go, I think the new stuff on a red firewall would look rather snazzy. ;)

:D

As an side note...

Does anyone know the ppg code for the silver pewter color?

I had a can of the silver from CCOT, but somewhere it was misplaced along the way.
If anyone has the ppg code i would be super grateful :D

I'll look and see what's in the holy grail of early colors that's in my possession. not sure how that would translate to ppg though. I 'm pretty sure I remember that though.

That's definitely stock. Mine is the same way. Most early cruisers 63-64 that i've seen are the same way. I can take some pics of mine if you like. I think it will turn out bitchin either way. your call but I think it would be period and restoration correct to do so. I'd respect it if you kept it red too.

anyway.

I looked up the color codes. Interestingly enough there are no real codes for the bumper, wheels and top. They are listed among the paint codes though. Interestingly enough the land cruiser bumper silver irid is a different color than the Hi lux trunk bumper but ever so slightly. also a lot of silver irid are listed but they are all different.

Here is the info from the book:

Silver Irid. formula - TO213
(Land Cruiser Bumper Color)
PNT-90 100
AT-114 521
AT-111 661
AT-141 682
AT-176 703
AT-190 719
AT-154 724
AT-100 1000

Shell Ivory T-302
(Roof Color - Land Cruiser)
PNT-90 100
AT-190 700
AT-174 848
AT-141 896
AT-179 900
AT-100 1000

I don't know if they can use the base and setting #'s or not

Cygnus white is T-012 and listed as a "grey white"

you can use RAL 9007/ grey aluminium for bumper etc.
I sprayed my bumper with it, hits perfect

.... the black seems to be a matt black ( all I can see on the little pic I posted)
Ok, would not be my choice the black on the fenders and fire wall, on a 63 FJ........ but it`s your toy;)
