I'm sure someone on here has done it... anyone have any pictures? I have desmogged a 2f, but it's carbureted. Is there any difference when desmogging an EFI truck?

Why would you want to? It doesn't have a smog pump which is the biggest offender. The emissions on the 22RE are the PCV, EGR, charcoal canister, and cat. The only thing that might be worth getting rid of is the EGR, and you can disable it by pulling the vacuum hoses off the throttle body and capping the ports.

If you are building a fuel injected buggy, you can get block-off plates for EGR, AS & unwanted heater lines from lcengineering. Like pappy says though, you don't have much to gain from their removal.

plus the R motors are designed to run well with smog junk, it's not like the 2F or or an SBC which gets choked up on everything, a desmogged 22R/RE will only gain incremental improvements, nothing noticeable, like a 2F. Shoot, I drove an 81 Hilux w/22R with bad a bad smog pump, and it was notably rougher than mine.

I am thinking of simplicity, not power. That mess of vacuum hoses between the valve cover and intake manifold irritates me. I have two 2fs which are both carbureted and desmogged. Maybe I just need to get used to EFI. How about pulling off the EGR? what does that do to clean things up?

I just got this truck and I'm trying to get a feel for these motors. I've never worked on EFI or a four cylinder, so I am still learning. Thanks.
