i spend time camping and prospecting in the desert. I've bought a couple of different shirts to use in the hot sun. Long sleeves and a collar for sun protection is a must. Just trying to see if anyone has something they are in love with. I currently have a Columbia pfg and an island outfitters linen shirt. Linen seems cooler.

HA!

I pipeline welded for years. Long sleeve cotton wrangler shirts heavy starched that stood up against a wall. Worked 10-14 hour days in 100+ temps and stayed comfortable and remarkably cool for the most part. Hell even drank coffee on breaks..

I started wearing long sleeve linen shirts and pants when I'm going to be out in the weather for long periods now.

I always end up rolling the sleeves on any shirt I own unless it's freezing outside.

Yeah you'll have some nice big brown spots on your arms when you hit my age.

Never said I was bright..

This thread got me thinking about all the old prospectors and miners I have spent time with in saloons around Nevada over the years. Those guys wore cotton thermal underwear year round. They mostly wore Ben Davis striped work shirts or khaki work shirts over that.

Look at what most desert cultures wear and it is usually more than one layer.

Cabelas Safari shirts. Cheap, last 10-15 years, comfortable, great pockets.

Googled that, it looks exactly like the Sears/Dickies khaki work shirt, with epplets. It looks like epplets increase the value of a shirt substantially.

Jeeps cost less than Land Cruisers too.

I've had great luck with those Cabelas shirts over the years and they have helped me avoid countless sunburns. They are well made and last. Plus they are 100% cotton, which only the expensive dickies shirts are. The cheap ones you reference are a poly blend.

Columbia Omnishade long sleeve white shirts in the summer here. Not the most durable clothes if you will be doing work, but very comfortable.
