This looks like it would be a better trip than how we entered in 2011. How about we all meet at the Patton museum (Chiriaco Summit exit) at 11:00? We can check out the tanks and then hit the trail.

Sounds good to me and I hope I didn't step on any toes. Just wanted to throw it out there an perhaps try something new.

Bringing your smoker? I will probably do a tri tip on Saturday and leave early Sunday morning.

Starting at Patton sounds like a blast! Never been there, but my father was a huge WWII buff. When we lived in Germany we visited many WWII sites, so this will be great fun as a little of that is in my blood.

No worries, this is a much better plan. I didn't know about the Patton museum or the Red Canyon trail so am really looking forward to the day.

Haven't decided if I will bring the smoker or go the dutch oven route. We'll see what I am in the mood for as we get closer. Maybe a nice pork shoulder. :D

Ummmm. Pork shoulder sounds good.

Saw your post on Portal about Red Rock Canyon - is that the route in after the Patton museum? Looks like fun!

Yes sir that is the route.

Since I actually haven't driven it i don't know for sure. There are a couple of videos on you tube and Vimeo so perhaps you can take a look and see what you think. That said I would probably not recommend taking it through the bradshaw trail out of the salton sea like we did in 2011. There were a couple of short-steep hill climbs that might cause problems for you. Just my 2 cents.

Just a note here guys.

Red Canyon and Red Canyon Jeep Trail are two different beasts. Red Canyon links off of Bradshaw in Salt Creek wash and dead ends. Red Canyon Jeep trail links Bradshaw and I-10.

If you guys are meeting at the Museum, take Red Canyon Jeep trail south. When you hit Salt Creek Wash, right before Bradshaw immediately hang a right and then another right into Red Canyon.

The main part of Red Canyon is fine for trailers. You just have to do a 3 point turn at the very end. I do not recommend taking the side canyon trips with a trailer.

Hope this helps guys.

It only takes a few business days too. I took my exam this past Saturday, and I checked online today (Wednesday) and they had assigned a call sign already.

Adam, congrats on getting your ham ticket punched!

Thanks Dave. Ya I figured that one out the other day after checking the trail on a topo map and watching some YouTube videos... I quickly realized that they were not one in the same. That said the jeep trail still looks like a very cool run. Perhaps we can check out the canyon on Saturday ... You need to come with us!

I was just out there about a month and half ago, and have a CRP/First Aid class to attend to that weekend. You guys have fun.

Ya. I think attending a first aid class might be a good thing! :)

We are in for the DR2013!

Frank

Good deal! Just a heads up that there are a couple trucks from Expo that saw our posts and will be joining us on the run. So I think the plan is to meet at the museum , walk around a bit then hit the trail.

Hope I can make it. Close to my wedding anniversary...great way to spend it but...:princess:
