Okay, I'll bite.... WTF is Biltong?

Mike

Biltong is sun/wind dried meat(beef or venison), made the traditional way from back in South Africa. Only use thick cut (1inch) meat pieces, salt, vinegar and spices to make it. No cooking . It's like US jerky, but way more tasty(for me). You actually taste the meat and not just the overwhelming spice.

I will have some after hunting season. I make my own. We can try it out at some event.

It will be just me for dinner on Saturday. I can bring the guacamole and sour cream.

That sounds way better then jerky.

Got the last of the welding done on the trailer last night..... cause I ran out of Argon . Gotta work on the church kitchen this morning then go I can get primer on the rest of bare metal and start working on the wiring I had to cut to re-do the neck and maybe Sunday afternoon get the camper fitted back onto it..... That'll be the big test.

How's that saying go? If it weren't for event deadlines I'd never get any work done on my junk......

Biltong - one of the things I miss about South Africa...

DSR gave me the deadline to repaint the kitchen and pantry. It is done (except for remaking a door) so this weekend I'll have some time to spend on the 40 and 4Runner.

edit: Replacing the lower radiator hose on Tuesday. I hate pinholes.

Chris, do you want us to bring (read make) salsa? We'll even tone it down so that it's just hot :D I'll have to find out if the wife is coming, since we were supposed to go to a wedding reception. I'll let you know by tonight.

Do we have cheese covered? What else do you want/need?

Logan (I think), great to read the tacoma is back. I was starting to worry that I might catch up to you in mileage

Who all is bringing their kids. I know Chris is bringing Cooper.

Looks like Caroline will be coming along and we will be bringing Christoper (2-1/2) and Alex (5-1/2). they probably won't wheel with me the entire time and most likely will be hiking in the area.

You don't even know, It feels so good to drive it after all this time. I have put over 200 miles on it since friday, the hardest part is "taking it easy" for the first 500 miles. luckily I'm almost half way there, and my 4wd doesn't work, yet. I hoped to get my front diff in this weekend, but it hasn't showed up yet. after that and getting my locker wired up I should be ready to roll!

So far:

Meat - Chris
Guacamole - Randy
Sour Cream - Randy
Salsa - Jason
Cheese - Jason
Tortillas - Marc

Still need:

Refried Beans
Lettuce

chris, I'm bringing leftover meat from FN, planing on bringing pulled pork and brisket around 1.5 lbs of each

I just want to reconfirm ....

Reconfirm or reconnoiter? :hhmm:

What time are we hitting the trails on Sat., so those of us driving up that morn. can schedule accordingly. Make sure the kids bring all their Halloween loot, just looking out for their health and potential cavities :D

Burritos and candy, anyone else see the potential hazard?

As for your question regarding Saturday. I'm hoping they hit the trails around 9:30 or 10:00 as I will be driving in on Saturday as well.

My 40 is kicking my butt this week. I've had the radiator out twice, pressure tested to 20 PSI twice, and added UV leak detector. It is leaking and probably out around the bottom tank seam as there are no indications anywhere but in the bottom of the radiator support frame. I'm taking it to a shop tomorrow morning to have them sort it out (hopefully) Friday.

Cooper and I are working to get there between 8 and 9 Saturday morning.
