Wheels and tyres arrived. Braid Dakar Full RaceTs with BFG 255/85R16 KM3s. The fit is good.
The hydraulic jack has a mount and is secured now. 2 spare wheels fit and secured as intended.
First fully loaded test with water, 150l of fuel, spares, tools, all our recovery gear, wheels, 2 days of food, medical kit etc is scheduled for the 24th at a at Sweet Lamb Rally centre in Wales, UK. We have it for a the day. I don’t think we will trouble the WRC boys times 😏 but we should get a good feel for the car.
Hopefully we can get the tool and gear storage boxes made up this week.

Love the wheels, Do you happen to have the width and backspace info by chance?

A few smaller updates. New steering wheel and some more storage fabrication.

Fantastic, much appreciated.
The 16” steels on it were very similar. I mainly changed due to strength, its not unusual to bend a wheel on Dakar even in the classic and the Braid’s have a kind of beadlock system whereas the steels were running a 2nd inner tube as a beadlock and to keep the tyres from spinning. Previous owner ran 0.5bar on General’s.
I will provably drop to 1bar on the 255/85s Km3s

That's good to know the Braid wheels have a beadlock type feature cast into the rim. Are the tyres you are running and "E" rated sidewall? If so you might be able to run lower pressures due to increase in tire rate. Looking forward to seeing your build and test and tune result and progress.

Not finished, but ready for testing. We went ro Sweet Lamb rally centre in Wales to put Bj through his paces. Weather was incredibly wet, traction lacking, the track was ungraded and cut up, very loose.
We did 2.5hrs in 2 sessions, often flat out and 100miles. Drove there and back, 300miles.
The ride was much better than expected, pretty damn good in fact. Car was solid, engine strong with good power and torque from 1000rpm to 3200 before flattening out.
Its not the same type of driving as Dakar, much more intense, but the goal was to get a feel for the car.
I don’t think I can load or link to video’s here but you can see some on our insta posts @thattoyotabj71
There is more work to be done on the car but mostly finishing work now and the graphics.

Looks great guys! Sometimes first testing in the rain is best as it slows one down a bit.

The irony is not lost that the co-drivers surname is Steer...If that is indeed the correct way to read this.
