I really have not had it off road, but had driven it to and from work a couple of times. Shortly after I cut it, my transmission went out. I think she was pissed cause I started cutting on her. I hope not.
Cap the quarters where you cut. Install a 1" or 2" body lift and route your exhaust over the frame. Lop off the rear cross member just aft of the tailgate and taper the angle forward then fab up a bumper to take advantage of your improved departure angle and open rear quarters.

Whew, done cutting the other side. Capped the first side and cut the exhaust right before it passes under the frame rail. Pictures are on another camera so I will have some this evening.

I need pics of your bolt on bumperette/rear slider/whatever the hell ya want to call 'em. I was looking for them in another thread.
I'm thinking of doing something similar with a new, beefy piece of steel between the frame rails that has recovery points and an integrated 2" receiver.
With something like your rear side bits that are bolt on, I can replace them if need be.

Looks cool...I like the shot from the rear. Looks mean as hell. You took off quite a bit...bigger balls than me.

Yeah, I'm digging how it looks from the rear. Now my wagon looks mean from both ends... I've seen it coming down the road from the front when a friend was driving it and it looks so nice now the the corners are cut up. Also makes the wagon look higher!

Jeez, i forgot to snap a pic of that. I cut it right before it passes under the frame rail, I'll get a pic of it. It's raining now... and I got bare metal and open holes

So here we go, the whole reason why i started this thread, to see what I should do with the pillar supports. After examining it quite a bit and realizing I could shave off more the the outer pillar and still keep the innner pillar I did just that. Since i can't weld worth crap, Brad at Painless Fab had those honors, and he was still able to lay some welds down even with my terrible grinding!
Below are the final pics.
Now on to designing the protection!

See above pics, I forgot about focusing on the tail pipe, but they show it none the less. No issue of smashing it since it's not close to anything

haha, you're killing me! no chopping of the frame.... yet. I've thought about it and it would be easy to grind off and slide in 4" but I'm not doing it just yet...
It just looks like a big huge lever for tweaking something hanging off the back of your truck.

Looks like you could chop the frame right at the body mounts and install the crossmember again with some neat side protection...
