Here is my contribution to the great cupholder dilemma. Maybe I missed it somewhere else but in all my searching I never came across a cupholder mod like this. I ordered a 4 pack of boat cupholders from amazon for under $20. The hole was drilled using a 3 1/2" hole saw that I already had when I installed my snorkel. I had to file the holes a little bit bigger but that was better than buying a new hole saw. I used careful guessimation and precision eyeballing to get the holes right and it actually worked out well. I'm very happy with the results. The cover still opens but obviously you have to remove the cups if you need to get in the console which I rarely do.

I actually developed those exact inserts a few years back but had very little interest. Nobody wanted to cut up their lid. I think I sold about a 1/2 dozen pairs over 2 years so I discontinued them. I created one that only sunk into the storage area 1" which allowed most of the function of the storage. Also designed one that sat flush with the lid but took away more storage space. See pics
