ordered a heated grooving / siping iron to to the 38.5's on my 60 and and to sipe the tires on the 42, i know some of yall have done it with a razor blade and some soapy water and all i have to tell you is... your retarded... spend the 60 bux and save yourself 4 or more hours!!
The Iron makes 2 slices for each time you go across the tread bock and most of the tread blocks have 8 cuts / sipes in them. I only did the center blocks and mostly for improved wet traction as we dont really get ice or snow down here. the siping also is said to reduce the heat in the tread blocks and will prolong tire life from the reduced heat so that is another plus.
then after i finished i turned the blade around to do some grooving, I decided that since i do wheel the 42 a little a little extra traction wouldnt hurt when off road. so i decided to groove the outter lugs a couple of 32nds to help give it a little extra bite.
I followed the curve of the tread block to keep it structurally as strong as possible and to reduce the possibility of chunking if i were to get on some rocks and were spining the tires for whatever reason.
anyhow here are some pictures.
1.) this is a BFG MT KM 33x10.50-15 as you can see i sipped the center lugs then groved the outters
2.) pile of rubber from grooving 2 tires.
