Well, I figured I’d stop pestering the “real” bike threads with my old trash and put it all in one place. Anybody into vintage bikes of any era or discipline is welcome to be a part of this and post their stuff, but it might turn into Jim’s personal echo chamber … we’ll see!

The current lineup, subject to change immediately with no notice:

1979 Trek 510 - the fat tired road bike

1984 Trek 830 (bringing home another victim) - the commuter and hauler when the rear rack & panniers are on it. At 10 years it’s the bike I’ve owned the longest

1984 Fuji Sundance - the mountain bike
IMG_4360.webp

1981 Holdsworth Mistral - the fixed gear
IMG_3994.webp

1962 Raphael Geminiani - the most recent project

A few that got away:

2012 Surly Ogre (above Gothic, Colorado)

92 Team Novara, Tange Prestige & full Dura Ace

2009 Handsome XOXO (Bridgestone XO-1 clone)

90s Trek 2120, carbon main triangle
IMG_7070.webp

80s Cannondale, by far the fastest bike I’ve ever owned (my back hurts just looking at it now)

A few more that got away…

87? Miyata 1000
IMG_7081.webp

Late 70s Peugeot UO8

00s Surly Long Haul Trucker - top tube got dented so I had a local frame builder repair it, then I rattle canned it

It’s all aluminum and bonded instead of welding. Weighs about 25 lbs.
Awesome. With those tires on there it looks like it might still see some dirt action on occasion?

I’ve held on to my first nice bike I owned. Paid for it from Summer work on a farm while in High School. I joined a cycling team and raced this puppy for probably 8 years. Made it up to Cat. 2. Built up in 1978, Charles Roberts Super, Reynolds 531 DB throughout.

Repainted and replaced parts in 1997. Campy Super Record parts, mostly.

This is excellent. Classic full-531 bikes are my favorite rides. Love the gold Campagnolo crankset and bronze brakes, that makes the whole thing. And the color-matched Silca pump too!

FYI Silca went out of business, was sold, and has been resurrected. I just ordered some parts from them for my 70s Silca Impero and wouldn't you know ... they fit! At least the valve seal and the cork gasket where the head meets the body. They do NOT have the internal leather cup plunger seal to fit old Imperos sadly, though I think I found some workaround.

The crankset is a Campy clone by Galli. I assume they're defunct now. Put that on in college and thought I was the cat's meow. :)

Here's a dedicated Galli website. Defo Campy clone company.

Galli stuff is $$$. Zeus made a business out of copying Campy as well. They were in Spain under Franco’s dictatorship and thus it was a semi-sealed economy. They were driven by necessity to copy unobtainable parts for the home economy.

I so wanted Zeus when I was racing. Zeus drilled everything... I remember finding a Zeus brake set at a shop, but it needed some type of adapter in order to fit my frame right, so I passed. I lived in Spain in 1981-82, but as a poor college student, I had to pass on Zeus.

They keep popping up locally for $200-300, but I don't need a race bike. Or rather my back doesn't need a race bike. They're cool though!

Love that color. If I ever own an FJ6X, it will be poop brown.
I'm biased but I think 861 Light Blue Metallic (early year 60 only) is my favorite, but root beer brown is my second favorite for sure. Nice truck @bhsdriller!

My
Thanks! Root Beer brown is a little nicer name my 4 year old calls it dookie lol
When my daughter inherited my old car, she identified it forever after as the 2008poopbrownSubaruOutback [spoken as fast as only teenagers can]

Edit: she is also responsible for naming my pickup SooperDoodie
