I dunno, anytime I see your rig it is finely detailed. With mud.Trails will be listed online within the next two weeks.
As far as PPF I’m probably not the best guy to ask about thatbut I would say the risk is minimal, maybe someone else can chime in.
Black Bear was closed when I hiked up from Telluride last Wednesday. A few big boulders in the road on the way down. Also the steps were rougher than when I did them in 2021. There was talk of the county clearing them so maybe that’s done, but there was no traffic expect us on foot and some mountain bikers. What's the status of things with the fires up there? Obviously it's a bit north of Silverton, but a large majority of the trails are in proximity not to mention the northern parts of 550 shut down which is a common route back from Telluride if you don't take Ophir. Would there be a point where this is at risk of being cancelled?
On a slightly lighter note--given the closure of 550 north of Ouray, the recommended route to go Ouray --> Telluride on Google maps is currently Black Bear or Imogene.

I just saw a post in multiple San Juan pages that Black Bear is now open.Black Bear was closed when I hiked up from Telluride last Wednesday. A few big boulders in the road on the way down. Even Poughkeepsie ends up going over a pass at the end that is a shelf road. I can't think of any of the off-road trails, even the Easy rated ones, that don't have some section that has some shelf road exposure.Three part question here:
1. Anyone headed over from Texas wanting to caravan? I'm probably leaving Sunday to stop part way since 14.5 hrs is a bit much for me in one sitting personally. Goal would be to make it a big chunk of the way so that Monday isn't too bad and could be a bit of a wheeling day before check in opens. Lots of places to stop between here and there depending on where everyone is coming from
2. Separately--who will be there early enough Monday that we could maybe get a late morning pre-event trail run organized?
3. Lastly--I've got a buddy flying in to join from Wednesday through the weekend so we can go fishing for his birthday. His wife was not stoked when we did the Alpine Loop a few years back and he is under strict instruction to not do any "dangerous" trails. In other words, I'm not allowed to take him on shelf roads where the drop means thousands of feet down. I thought I remember the Poughkeepsie shelf road or the trail that leads to Poughkeepsie (Mineral Creek?) being above a valley "only" a few hundred feet up. It's my favorite trail out there and he hasn't done it so I'd like to take him, but want to respect his wife's boundaries and not put him in a position he'd be uncomfortable with. Does anyone remember how sketchy that shelf road was because I didn't remember it being awful? Any other recommendations for trails that would fit the criteria? It's so tough bc even stuff like Ophir has that one section of shelf road.
Ophir is actually the easiest and probably the fastest compared to the other two routes. What's the status of things with the fires up there? You know what I think we actually ran this when we were out there during that Alpine Loop trip. We stayed in Telluride for a couple nights, but did the train in Durango and Google maps actually sent us that over the pass as the fastest way to Durango. We had talked about doing it again to see what it was like 5 years later--thanks for the rec!@HSTexan 3. I'd suggest taking them south to Bolam Pass... it's still a pass, but it's really wide, it's easy, never scary. And it has some amazing views, including coming down into Purgatory ski area. You just have to get over to the Telluride side to start it.. which likely means going all the way up to Ridgeway then back as the only other options from Silverton would be Ophir, Imogene, and Black Bear. Or run it the other way and do Telluride/Ridgeway/hot springs on the way back.
But it would be really nice day, I promise.@abuck99 turned me onto this one. Lots of pictures and video here Bolam Pass in Colorado: The Ultimate Road Trip Guide - https://www.dangerousroads.org/north-america/usa/4904-bolam-pass.html
I know I've done all 3--that was more so me being amused that at the time Google was potentially trying to route some poor family of 4 in a Honda Pilot over Black Bear or Imogene to get to TellurideOphir is actually the easiest and probably the fastest compared to the other two routes.

I don't know about being very helpful for a caravan but I will be leaving Albuquerque on Friday, 7/24 and heading north but stopping for a few days at a campground along the San Juan River (Cottonwood Campground) before heading up to Silverton on Monday morning.
Yeah, Google would send someone in their minivan over Black Bear.I know I've done all 3--that was more so me being amused that at the time Google was potentially trying to route some poor family of 4 in a Honda Pilot over Black Bear or Imogene to get to Telluride
Are you talking about once you've gone past Lake Como and are headed back to civilization via Hurricane Pass/Corkscrew Gulch? I know there is some bit of wiggle room so moderate shelf roads I think he would be ok with--those were fairly wide and I think would be ok. Tbh I even think that short section of Ophir would be ok. It's more stuff like Imogene and Black Bear she's straight out on. I just need to sit down and watch some footage on YouTube to remind myself what half of these look like so I can send them to him.
