Events/Trails Cruisers on the Rockies 3: July 27-31 2026 Silverton Colorado-REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN!!!

Hard to go wrong with any option; I’m a huge fan of the drive up to Kite Lake. At least in my experience it’s often a less travelled trail. I’m also not certain if Governor Basin is open all the way to the actual basin, I thought the road is closed at the turnoff to Sidney Basin for the summer. Don’t quote me 100% as I might have misunderstood what I read.

Did Yankee Boy, Governor and Sydney today. governor is still closed at the turn to Sydney.

Also, the decent down into Sydney Basin (about half way on the trail) when wet is a bit of a challenge for an overbuilt 200 (8400 lbs). Down was easy but it took 3 attempts and going to 3X locked and liberal skinny pedal to get out. I was solo and have to admit I was a little concerned after failing twice. Nothing to attach a winch line too. Need to loose some weight.

Flipping through my trail guide to find a nice warmup trail I haven't done before when I get into town Monday before check-in--anyone down to meet up 9:30-10AM and run something? Kendall Mountain if we're maybe trying to stay closer to Silverton or Porphyry Gulch a little north?

Few other ideas: Minnie Gulch, Maggie Gulch, Cunningham Gulch+Stony Pass but turn around at the pass...

I thought the trail does eventually loop around and come out closer to the way into the basins?

Say this is my first time at Crockies and I am debating taking our portable fridge. Trying to organize the truck and the thing takes a considerable space from the trunk. For you all that are not in your first rodeo, any recommendations? Will I need it during trails for lunch or snacks? Tia

You will need to pack a lunch each day but I just use a cooler for that but I have a camper with a stocked fridge. Before the camper, I had a big cooler for holding main supplies and a smaller cooler for daily lunch needs.

It appeared to loop on the map but it was an unnamed trail on OnX. That was plan B. The part where it ties back into the Sidney trail looked like it might get challenging.

I’m probably out on tomorrow mornings pre-run. My 12.5hr day turned into a 14hr day as I didn’t realize my LRA breather filter was covered in mud—boiled gas extensively and 99.9% sure flooded the charcoal canister. Started throwing P0441 codes for the last two hours into Pagosa Springs. Going to see what it throws in the morning now that it can finally stay parked for 10-12 hours and cool off/vent

I know my canister is toast after this week. Ethenol free fuel helped, but wasn't enough to fully prevent boiling almost daily. Never had a problem starting up, but I also never turned it off at elevation.
