Never too early to start planning for Cruise Moab 2008. It is my understanding that CM08 is tentatively scheduled for first weekend (first weds-sun) in May of 2008. Thats only 4 1/2+ months away. Now is the time to start thinking about talking to the wife and getting all the needed approvals and preparing your rig.

Last year was my first year and I cant begin to tell you how much fun it is. If you have never gone you really need to go at least once in your life. So the big question is..... WHO IS THINKING ABOUT GOING?

I would like to go, but wouldn't mind getting more TAC members to go. Last year we had a handful of guys and it was a blast!

Zane

Wendy and I are planning on going again this year.

I can say with almost 100% certainty that we won't camp at Slick Rock though, Wendy really disliked the place.

It is definitely worth the trip and some great fun.

Rob,
the bus would make it but it'll be slow going west of Denver. There is no telling how much fuel you'd burn. It would be worth the trip though.

i wonder if the bus can make it? and how much gas it would take?
Eisnhour pass west of Denv. is killer. i pulled it with my duramax with my 30' goose with 2 rigs on it fine but the down hill side was a hand full
i would not be afeared to take my bus, but it would be a SLOW ride out there
and my bus is a turbo diesel allso

We burned through 200 gallons of gas each way last year... But thats because we where towing three rigs and 7 guys piled in a BIG Simi! Yes, it was one big clown car when we all piled out! It still saved us a ton of money when you figure that we drove one rig rather than three trucks that didn't get that much better MPG. Hope to get it again for CM08!

200 gallons of gas in a semi, man i hope that Diesel is still running ;)
you need a longer trailer a forth rig would have been nice

UPDATE: I just updated my math! The rig got about 7 MPG. The drive is 2000 miles round trip. If my math is right we burned through 286 Gallons of gas round trip.

Now if we each drove our own trucks this is how much gas we would have burned through:

Bob G and Zane Z: 2 FZJ80's @ 12 MPG on a 2000 mile round trip= 333 gallons of gas.
Justin Tubb: 4 Runner @ 10 MPG on a 2000 mile round trip = 200 gallons of gas.

This would have put us at using 533 gallons of gas if we all drove separately.

We saved a good chunk of change not having to drive individually! Plus Bob, Justin and I didn't have to drive. We just sat back and enjoyed the ride.

Amen, to that Z.

Zane, y'all have another truck trailer that could go? I would like to attend this year, and maybe we can get one more of these rigs loaded up.

On that note, will a 60 with locker in back, 33's loaded with camp stuff make it in Moab?

Thanks
Brian

Yes! You will see 100% stock cruisers out in Moab. I was out there on 33's and did just fine. Only thing I would do is add sliders if you don't have them.

Zane

Sounds good. Yes, I have sliders made by the same guy that made my bumper you brought back for me.

Perhaps at the meeting we can have a discussion as to what you guys reccommend for someone that has never wheeled Moab. ANy special requirement or issues that people deal with.

Brian

you will need a lot of film or what ever you need for tons and tons of pics
food and water with you on the trails (our first trip did not work out so well)
we did pritchet can. and did not know it was an all day trail (all of it) we started at 8 in the morn. and got back to town at 11 at night, but we did have to help 3 rigs out that broke and there DRUNK buddys left them out there (they where not happy) and they where 2 fj40s and yes one was a jeep
one fj was stock and running stong the other was with a small block chubby the tranny adpt. broke, and the jeep come on guess !!! yes broke a rear axel
ok sorry i am done with my short story

Camera with extra cards, check.

I'll go back through the Cruise Moab 2007 posts, but do people sign up for runs every day, or do you do your own thing in a group? Also, do you camp on the trail, or come out every day to a camp ground or motel? Do I pack for a week out or just a day at a time?

Do you guys take your significant others? Yeah I know, it's like 20 questions....

Techtafab, I will PM you to discuss rear quarter protection. Thanks for the posts guys!

Could we get a couple of these trailers and go as a club, just a thought and it might open the door for some people who wouldnt normally be able to attend to actually go. I am only a simple Nebraskan with ideas of Moab splender! I couldnt afford pulling the 40 behind my burb but together life is good!!!!!!!

BtCruiser, that is kinda my idea behind my questions. If I could get a gooseneck that could haul two vehicles on it I could pull them out there, and split the cost of the diesel of my pickup, but would be nice if we could round up a second semi and haul more than two.

I called a buddy of mine this morning that hauls and he does not have permits for west states. He hauls south and east. Zane, if I recall, you guys already had the permits for the states you went through, right? Not sure on the cost of those. Anyhoo, would be good if we could get some sort of a deal going.
