Cruise cancels when turn signal actuvated

No matter what you use, if they are LED you’ll have issues with the cruise control canceling when you signal.

You have to install the resistors. It solves the cruise cancellation problem. Cheap, takes about an hour if you’re handy with a soldering iron or use taps.

I’m happy to report that is absolutely not true. I have LED bulbs all the way around and after disconnecting the trailer wiring harness tonight, I have a fully function cruise control. No fuss no muss no premature cancelation. And I’ll never tow anything with this rig.

glad to hear it.

Some LEDs come with resistors built in to cancel out the issue/errors caused by low voltage LEDs, but not all. You must have the nicer ones.

Those are 1156 for turn and reverse.
The brake/tail is 1157.
The CC issue is related to the brake/tail lamps.
For me the issue was also caused by turn signal lamps. The resistors solved it.

Tapping brakes will cancel cruise control regardless.

On my LX450, I have all LEDs with the exception of the headlights and tail/brake lamps. If I install LED tail/brake bulbs to both L and R sides, the CC will cancel when either turn signal is activated.
On a recent trip I lost a brake bulb and replaced it with an LED I had in the glove box. CC worked fine for the remainder of the trip, so it has something to do with the amount of load on the tail lamp circuit.
I have tried a variety of different LEDs over the years, all with the same result.
IMO adding load resistors defeats the purpose of having LEDs in the first place.

In a similar thread, @Malleus recommended LASFIT LEDs which he has had good luck with in several 80 Series and he's someone I trust...mostly ;)
I just ordered a pair so we'll have to see what happens.

Do you know if you have the trailer light harness connected? You can access them on both sides from inside the rear cargo area (tool carrier in the left & rear subwoofer area. On right). I separated the two connectors from the 4-wire harness and reconnected to the two empty. Everything works as it should.

I have a Hopkins 43405 trailer harness for my M416 that I tow around.

I especially like the LASfit backup lights. Dramatic improvement over everything else I've tried.

I'm pretty sure that my "not too cheap" amazon tail lights kill my cruise control. I bought the "significantly not cheap" Superbright 1157 bulbs and will install this week to see if that solves the problem.

fwiw: my symptom has been CC randomly dropping and I finally tracked it to the auto-headlights flipping on in tunnels, tree cover, or actual dusk. It's been driving me nuts so I really hope the SBL bulbs fix the issue. I've also got an ABS light on the dash that I'm hoping is related - it also blinks on whenever I turn on the headlights so I'm guessing it is a similar situation. In fact.... gonna go swap the bulbs right now to see what's what.

Quick update on this.
I installed the LasFit 1157s and and a chance yesterday to test out the CC and it sure seems like it's working. Not cancelling when using either turn signal. I'll call that a win.

So I did a bit of product testing today with various combinations of analog and LED tail lamps/rear turn signal lamps.
With either analog or inexpensive LED turn signals (1156), CC will cancel when BOTH brake/tail (1157) lamps are inexpensive LED.
CC will not cancel with brake/tail (1157) lamps are analog regardless of turn signal lamps.
Some of the cheaper 1156 turn signal LEDs will cause a rapid flash even with the proper LED flasher relay that I have installed.

And yes, work has slowed down a bit for the hollandaise ;)

I went all in on the LasFit LEDs for all 3 brake/tail, turn, and reverse and everything works as it should. They are not the cheapest option by any means, but they are ridiculously bright and work as advertised.

A small sample of bulbs I used. They now live in the glove box as road spares along with extra dome LEDs.

Thanks for taking one for the team. LasFit for the win!

The superbrite 1157 leds fixed my CC issue. Easy solution. Demonstrating, again, that it usually makes sense to buy the better the product first time

After reading this thread I found that the after market trailer harness was indeed tapped into my rear light wiring. I unclipped them hoping that would be my CC problem but unfortunately no dice. My CC light has always come on but it has never done anything to control the speed. Its the last problem to work out on my ‘94 and i am still baffled. 😕
