I found a crack on the frame rail between the steering box and the drag link mount, about 2.5 inches long. I haven't driven the truck in 3 years and don't know when I did this. Now I'm rebuilding my 80 and found this... I hope my parts truck has a straight frame!

 it sounds like something you would hear on a LR forum...ive never heard of an 80 series frame craking, you must have dropped it off of a 20 story building or something...

Jon, there is a small crack coming from the lower left steeringbox bolt hole, but the big crack is on the under side of the frame kinda like the stress is from the drag link mount:cheers:

Can you get a few more pics from a bit further away, just to make it easier to identify the exact location relative to the steering box etc?

 Man, you don't even want to think about what would happen with LR's. Trust me... my little sis has one... worst vehicle known to mankind. :). (I'm not biased...really. Just realistic.) :)

Donut - have you had this truck since new? If not, I'm wondering about a previous incident - accident, etc.

Plate it, Weld it, move on.
.

Interesting. I don't expect to find anything, but I'm inspecting my frame this weekend.

DougM, Got it in 2000, was told no accidents but now that I have it apart I'm thinking different. Just cosmetic work so far, little bondo under the flairs, spot welds inside the doors...

After reading this thread, I remembered I had seen this before on Alvaro's( Norcal cruisers) website... Look at the first couple pics, as mentioned before this seems to be a high stress area on the frame...
