I went round and round about whether to refinish the gun myself or pay someone to do it. It worked out to be much more cost effective to let a professional do it instead of buying all the gear needed to do a decent job on 1 pistol. So I dropped it off at Birdsong Industries down around Florence for their Black-T finish. It took them about 6 weeks to do the gun, but it was done right and for considerably less than it would have taken me to buy the gear to do it myself.

So at this point, it's time to start putting it all back together. I installed a set of CGW's excellent EZ-D CZ competition sights, a CZ Competition hammer, new extractor, new springs and all the slicked up guts. Also put a pretty set of grips on her for after shot.

So the final results yielded a 5.5# double action trigger with a short reset single action trigger that breaks at slightly less than 2#. All told, I'm into it for about $700 and a few hours work, including the refinish. My "poor man's Shadow" has totally replaced my real Shadows as my primary competition gun. I sold both of the Shadows and built a second one of these. This particular gun has 5-6k rounds through it since it became my main gun in November. I will put another 2k rounds through it next week during a couple of classes I am taking. Total round count unknown, probably somewhere around a billion.

You need to come farm some brass.

You shoot a lot. Wow.

I probably average 1k rounds a month, unless I am taking a class, shooting a big match, or have more time to practice. I'd say 1k is probably average, but I'll shoot 3000~ rounds this month... all 9mm, probably 75% of that from the gun above, but then there will be a month where I might only get the chance to shoot 4-500 rounds. I try to minimize those months.

Awesome.

Getting it in and out of Birdsong in 6 weeks is great...they must have had a lull in GOV work.

I also did the disassembly/reassembly work for them. I took them a bare frame, a bare slide, a slide stop and a safety. Most people drop their whole gun off, so Birdsong has to disassemble it, clean, prep, etc..., 100 different parts and springs, then reassemble it. I'm not sure what their work load was at the time, but I was told that the fact that I only wanted a few parts done and not the whole shebang cut down on the turn around.

Ok, since all y'all love the M&P I decided it must be me being a bitch so I took it out and put 100 rounds through it completely ignoring the Crimson Trace and shot it much much better.

I think I have been aiming too much and not shooting instinctively which is what I do with a handgun. Two eyes mainly.

I also took out the .38 S&W 642. I ran some different loads through it. Did some rapid fire, decided I like it but there is no way Red will enjoy shooting it.

I'm going to get her a pink LC9 Ruger and peel out.

I found a great home for the Smith in the 100.

Why they made that lever handle release a stainless steel toothpick is beyond me. I'm always worried I'm going to jab my thumb into it.
