True on all counts. My main interest is mapping apps so the Back Country Navigator is what I use so therefore stick with android while everyone else in our house are apple addicts. I can't run an iPad or iPhone.

Damn the solid mounts are high compared to the flexible.
Nexus is sold by google. Not the cheapest units but their marketing concept is no bloatware and first devices to receive the new OS releases. Always the most cutting edge updates.I'm currently using an iPad and iPhone, but since my goal (wish) is to - some day, somehow - integrate all of my electronic devices into one unit (car stereo, navigation, car diagnostics, etc. - you know the old "carputer" concept), it seems as if the Android format will allow for flexibility the ipad won't....or at least it seems like it'll be easier.
Google Nexus and Samsung Galaxy tablets seem to be highly-rated.
Comments?
Can you reinforce the flex mount by sliding a tube over the flexy part? In other words, can the flex mount be disassembled with common tools enough to make modifications?
[edit] Looked it up. I think you can disassemble at the ends and slide a rigid piece of alum or steel or even PVC, paint it black.
