Have owned my '99 LX 470 since 2001 and with 28,000 miles. The rig has about 215,000 miles and I can take it out and go any where any time. I just got back from a 700 mile trip with wife/3 kids and In-laws and it drove flawlessly.
Having said that, things do wear out with time and if you replace them promptly, you should be fine. In the last year or so, I have had front seats recovered, both front axles replaced (slight leak in one) and bearings packed, front brakes replaced (rotors/pads),replaced front shocks (one was leaking) and flushed the AHC, all fluids (brake, coolant, diffs, transmission, and drive shaft)
I think I spent close to $2500 if not more but the dang thing drives flawlessly
I am currently in need of new tires and new rear brakes and the thing be good for another 50,000 miles
Timing belt /heater-T and plugs and belts were replaced about 4 years ago and would need replacement in another year or so.
