Are you sure the bottom half of the OD is even there? I have seen at least one that mounted a plate where the lower case goes.

It definitely a Fairey OD. Better picture from back would help. Never seen a plate like that mounted on the back.

Do you have anymore pictures? As Mark mentioned the lower half is just an idler gear the the gear fits inside the top half. Gearing without OD it not using the idler gear but it's still spinning. The bearing are needle style and would cause quite noise even when not in overdrive. If you have a complete OD in working order it would certainly help the value. Bad or missing parts most likely going scrap the OD and souce all the parts from the transfer case that were moved to install the OD.
