Cooper STT vs Toyo Open Country 315's

Two full sets of Coopers worn down to Spare Tire size. I like the tires. The noise is acceptable (right up there with exhaust and gears) I'll be looking into my 4th set here pretty soon (there's a set of AT's on the 80). The STT's do tend to wear fairly fast. the current set was new January 09 and are well worn and chunked up now. I figure I get a good 10,000 miles and stretch another 5,000 miles before I replace, but I run almost new tires at all times. Winter/ice/snow, no better or worse than others, I've skipped the studded snow tires for five years now. Mud- I think that is mostly the driver. The tires do great when you have a knowledgeable driver :) (I'm getting better). Out of two sets I've had two flats (a file and a nail).

They'd probably do better in mud if the driver could keep then in the mud

Gonna go with the 305 70 16 toyos. Any suggestions for best price? I'd like to install them this weekend.

The Toyo's are HUGELY popular among the diesel truck crowd, most likely for their load rating. The Coopers are a great tire, will hold up just as well on lighter vehicles (not a 10,000lb f-350) and will give you all the traction you need for less cost.

i would go with the toyos...
Sounds like you know what the coopers are like, why not give the toyos a try.

I have been running the Toyo MTs (37x13.5x17) for about 6 months now and I love them. They are quiet on the road and have great traction on the trail, run them at 10lbs and you can barely tell I'm aired down.

At some point, you have to ask the question: Why am I buying a MT at all. It is likely because you want a tire tough and capable enough to get you through your off road adventures and back home again.

I wanted the Toyos and settled for the BFG KM2 because the Toyos simply weren't available. They have been really great so far but for a reliable tire which stands the best chance of getting you back home, I'd go with the Toyo. It is heavy but that is because of the extra thickness. The Toyo is likely the most rugged tire on the market that is acceptably quiet on pavement.

The only sticking point is that if you seriously damage more than one of your Toyos, you might have a really long wait to get a replacement. That was the other factor driving me to the BFGs. They are usually available.

Having had the toyos and then the coopers. I liked the Toyos better. In fact, my new truck came with brand new terra grappler ats which I sliced up pretty good on a run to the maze. I replaced them with toyo mts and am on my way back from Moab where I tested them pretty well. Still very happy with the trail performance and the snow performance during the winter. Had mine siped when I bought them. I also have had the big at kos and still like the toyos for me. I do run the bfgs on my wife's car as they are a great tire for the city that will do well in snow
