Shop found cooling system pressure is lost over an hour period but can't see a leak. He put in a UV dye and wants me to come back after a few weeks of driving.

@Plains Cruiser :

If it's an external leak it shouldn't take a week if you're driving the vehicle daily, have you looked up above your starter (on the block) from the left front wheel well? Take some photos and post them up here.

There are a few other areas where you might find external leaks; rear heater piping system (near the cats), rear of engine close to the firewall (might show on the top/sides/bottom of the bellhousing), around the water pump, Thermostat housing, bypass hoses near the Throttle Body, any heater or radiator hose, top or bottom of the radiator, riser pipe front right of engine, ----.

You could check yourself, buy a UV or "black light" flashlight from Lowes
or any other source and start crawling around/under the vehicle.

You can start watching around 3 minutes in:

Did you ever do a combustion gas test post head gasket replacement?

I get the impression the op doesn’t have the facil/abili-ities to do any of the work himself. Not sure how to help.

Loss of pressure after an hour should not be a concern.

Once the pressure has dropped down to the cap rating so no more is being vented to the expansion tank, then yes pressure should be held, but it will only be for a short time until the water cools, as it does it creates a vacuum pulling water back from the expansion tank. If it held pressure then that simple process could not happen.

Regards

Dave.
